I guess I thought it did because of the way it kind of does in the way that you burn the fat for energy in order to have the strength to keep lifting the weights and build up the muscle.

I was never very good at biology

Me neither.Its a hard subject!

I think I'll go down town to the big gym shop and look into it. I live in Belfast at the weekend and Coleraine during most of the week for Uni so I'd need to keep something in both my rooms. I assume I'll be able to buy barbells that come with the longer bench press type weights.

Yeah you probably can.If your buying a barbell try and get a bench too.The bench press is a good exercise for building your upper body.It did for me anyway.

I already eat a ridiculous amount of food, two dinners a day sometimes, but I think I have a high metabolism or something cause it doesn't seem to go anywhere. I'd have to get some of that weight gain powder stuff :S

Yeah my mate is like that.He eats like a pig but is a wretch.Try and eat 6 decent meals a day. With these meals try and gets as much protein and carbohydrates at possible.Drink 6 glasses of water too.

Lol. :P

Question? Is it uncommon that my heart rate is higher after a 10 minute weight routine than it is with 45 of cardio on a bike?

Dunno, I guess if you work harder during the weight routine I don't see why your heart rate shouldn't be high.

I haven't checked it out or anything but my thought would be that since weight lifting is anaerobic your heart would compensate by beating faster to get lactic acid out and o2 in

after 45 mins on a bike, which is hard to get your heart rate up on and which is an aerobic activity so after the initial 5-7 minute transition from not doing cardio to doing it
your heart rate should level out if you keep the same intensity.

in short, I wouldn't think so.

I'm coming back to this club, Time to get me a six pack and my legs and arms, shoulders and shit back, can't believe I did all that work then let it go to waste.

Anywho, I'm a 33" waste, weight 11 stone 5 and 6 Foot tall.

I know I'm only 14, but it is possible.

Anyway, you guys might remember me, I want to get a good six pack in atleast a month, I've been preparing and I've only been eating, pasta, rice, fish, chicken and veg and fruit, basically all you need, I think, and alot of water and fresh sqeezed juice, and I've been doing some exercise(Barely).

I basically wanna build my self back up, and sort my fucking chest out, starting to annoy me now, anyway, good exercises? Please.

I also have access to a bench, so bench exercises would be nice to.

yeah, I hear you
I was doing well and now not so much, I have 86 days left to get a 6 pack before I owe my brother 50 dollars and I think I know what way it'll go. Oh well maybe the though of racing season will be enough to get me to tone myself up again.

You've been saying for a while now about how you want a 6-pack? Whats stopping you though? Do you have a gut? or is your belly just undefined?

it's very clear that I'm the only thing in my way, and I wouldn't say I have a gut but I'm not exactly flat stomached either. It's really just a matter of doing the work, no question about it.

To be honest though, I think I'm starting to sound whiney.

Consider this my official posting departure until:
I've lost 20 pounds,
my bench is back up to 225,
and my mile is back down to 7 minutes

After one small training sesion i was completely fucked. Jogged for 10 mins with stretch's now and then, just a meer 20 push up's, 40 sits up's(always do double the push up) some a few sets of curls and some chins, nice 40 minute workout.
But it wasn't worth how much I felt like shit afterwards, oh well, time to get back into the buissness we call, 'Toning up'.

You sound quite athletic so I don't see why you should have any problems getting a 6-pack.I hate doing crunches more then any other exercises but with the right form you can do quite little ab exercises per week and still see results after a few weeks.

The trick is to do crunches that are low rep but high intensity.I do 100 crunches and about 50 reps of lower ab exercises every 2nd day and I am seeing results. The whole process only takes 20 minutes.

I advice you to do your least favourite exercises 1st.If you leave them to last odds are you'll be too tired/not arsed to do them.

Ah yeah.I'm just beginning to get back into my before Christmas routine.I put out on a stone since X-Mas and I am working on getting my weight down to 10 stone. It ain't easy though. The thing is I did no exercise during X-Mas and ate like a pig, after new years I had exams and then during mid term I did no exercises but managed to go through 40+ of beer in a week...

But I'm feeling alot sharper now and am making decent progress.

At the moment I'm only doing 45 minutes on my bike, and a little weight routine.
But I really want to lose my stomach and man tits (thankfully they're both quite small, but not enough that I'm happy with them).

So is there anything other things I should add to my routine?
Or any foods/drinks that help (if there are any, I dunno).

How often you on the bike?45 minutes is easily 450 calories burned so you should see results quickly.

I suggest doing bench presses. They'll tone your tits fairly quick.Do push ups if you can't get a bench.

Just count calories.Every item of food has the calorie number on the back.Just try and not go over 2000 calories a day.Doing that and using your bike is guaranteed to get you results.

Hey guys, figured I should join ya here.

I've been busting my ass of to get my measurements converted into your crazy American system. I'm 6'0 and weighed about 144 lbs two weeks ago (that's 1.84 m and 65.5 kg for those of you that enjoy the metric system). As you probably can tell I'm tall and skinny.

About two weeks ago I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, "Damn do I look like a skeleton!" so I decided I had to gain weight. Now I've been eating like mad to try and gain some weight, while at the same time I'm doing a lot of muscle exercises to make sure it doesn't just end up giving me a big belly. My target right now is to gain 10lbs (get up to 70kg), and then see how I look like that. Right now I weigh 147.4 lbs, so I've managed to gain 3 lbs. So far it's looking better when I'm gaining.

I'll keep you posted on my reverse diet. Heh.

I haven't posted here in a while, but I think I will try to be more active, as I still want to lose some weight. My main problem isn't eating too much, its just lack of activity. Most of my friends are the videogame/anime type, so when I go over to their houses, we don't do any activitie. I don't mean to say its someone elses fault, but I need to force myself to exersise more. I am going to save up to buy a bicycle.

Do them everyday and do any many as you can.50 a day would be handy enough. If you place your hands wider then shoulder width apart when doing them you give your chest a greater workout.

Here somes tips about working out in general:

1)Drink Water. A young male athlete's body is about 75% percent water, while a young female athlete typically boasts about 70% percent. Nearly two-thirds of the water shows up in the muscles, while the rest can be found in the bloodstream. Men and women both, may find themselves "in a constant state of dehydration." Generally, athletes wait for their sense of thirst to signal that it's time to drink. However, thirst is sensed only after dehydration has started.

More importantly, once you are dehydrated, it may take as much as 48 hours to properly re-hydrate. This is why so many athletes, unknowingly, are in a constant state of dehydration. As blood volume becomes diminished, blood flow along with oxygen and other nutrients to the muscles is significantly reduced, rendering them less functional. So, DRINK A LOT OF WATER !

2)Changing Exercises. Not a bad idea is changing exercises every once in a while. Your body gets used to same movements and pressure and soon stop growing that fast. When you feel that your muscle don't get tired enough from increased amount of sets or you simply see no growth, change exercises to alternative ones.

* Note that such basic exercises like Flat Bench Press, Squads or Barbell Biceps Curls (straight bar) shouldn't be change. These are classic exercises which shouldn't be changed around, when every other exercises should be changed around these

3)Time Between The Sets. Many people don't know how much time do they need to rest between the sets. Other people think that they know, and finally there are some people who do know it. So we will try to explain how long you have to wait before you do your next set. There is no certain amount of time as some say. You might hear numbers such as 20 seconds break, 40 seconds, 1 minute. However, every single person, every single body is unique, there fore you have to feel if you have rested enough, usually it's somewhere between 1-2 minutes, but it also depends on how intense your exercise is and how many reps you do. When you put your weight down after the set, listen to your hear beat, check how fast you are breathing, how tight your muscles are at the moment. And rest till your heart beat decreases a little, till you are not breathing as heavily, and your muscles are not so tight anymore.;
DO NOT stand or seat on one spot. Walk around the gym, so your heart and breath will calm down faster and can start doing your set. As soon as your heart beat is steady and you don't take your breaths as often - you are ready for another set. Take your weight, make sure you have a good grip on it, take 3 control breaths and ....off you go.
