4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsAs suggest by Star_Cleaver in a previous topic, I created this thread in hopes that a sticky note will be posted in this forum setting guidelines and restrictions. I would love for all the regulars here to post their own suggestions as to what will go in the sticky topic. To start off, I'll state the ovious.
-Relate all ActionScript question to the Flash forum.
-Do not post topics as vague as "How do I make a portal". If you have a script witten out that generates errors, by all means ask for help.
-Google all your questions BEFORE posting a topic.
-If google fails search the BBS.
-DO NOT post a topic that reads "Which is the best language". Each language has its ups and downs. Again, google before you post.
Also, I would love to see the thread include a list of languages including their pro's and con's, links and references for beginners, and websites and articles to read before you begin programming.
Please, I'd would love for everyone to add their input. When we feel the thread is complete we could email it to wade?
my biggest advice is to sticky that, rest is extras.

I'm with you, but administration seems incredibly stubborn on the concept of stickies.

Done and done!
I can't believe you didn't search the Programming Forum for me and Jesus Cyborgs list of dos and don'ts for the programming forum.
No way I'm searching for it, but you should look for it, it's awesome because....well me and JC made it. ;)

Sweet! It's more than 2 weeks old, I'll tell you that. You'd have a better job searching my posts for something containing the word "portal". You'll have a few posts found with this criteria but I know the rules had that word in them.
WE need a god damn edit button PLEASE!
okthx.

Why do we need one? So people can be idiots and go back in time and correct their mistakes.
Yes so people can correct mistakes without posting again, how will they be idiots?
By bumping old threads with corrections? In that case there should be a restriction that you should have a certain amount of posts to use the Edit button, or have it as a secret or somethin. Im sure the pros out way the cons.., instead of making a new post and waste database space by just saying " sorry i spelled "C+" wrong. C++* " you could just edit the text of your old post., i dont know the sercurity risks but im sure they're not to be worried about, if not explain why we should be worried..
Well I think its a good idea :/
Or better yet have a link to what they said before they edited their post....

wtf
Anyway, editing posts only setup the users with a possibility of posting something then editing the post back because it's bannable or something. Even if you have a time limit on how long you have the right to edit your post, it could still happen.
Say users can only edit their post for a half hour after it's posted (this is how my forums are). Well, they could easily get banned for that post, then they could change it and argue they never did anything, which would be completely absurd.
Sure, you could setup a system so that if a user is banned because of a certain post that they can't edit that, but once again, way too many new systems for something so simple.
So far inglor suggested we link to www.w3schools.com. I think that is un-disputed. Cinjection wrote a great run-down of all the languages here, and I'm still searching for the portal "Do's and Don'ts" Written by Pilot-Doofy and JesusCyborg.

I'm disputing that. W3Schools provides a lot of information, but a lot of it is crap for that very reason. Specialist sites like HTML Dog do a far better job.

I think it would be much better if instead of totally banishing W3schools, you also add links to websites such as www.htmldog.com / www.htmlgoodies.com / any other specialized sites you feel are worth while.

Never thought of it that way. :/
I agree that W3schools.com isn't very good. I woudl recomend sites that specailise in one area, auch as cprogramming.net, htmldog.com(css + html, but really the same deal) ect. They know more about what they are talkng about, and seem to explain it better anyway (i think)
