Damage by virus can be reversed (should the nessesary, and frankly idiot-proof, steps be taken), death cannot. You can't put them in the same catergory.

It's been around since the invention of the 5 1/4 inch floppy floppy drive. What would the detriment of removing hackers be on this multi-billion dollar industry?
