For full article, see this.
The Same-Sex marriage bill which has garnered so much debate in Canada has just passed third reading. It will now be referred to the Senate, and will pass it within a matter of weeks.
The bill drew deep divisions in the parliament, causing one MP to leave the Liberal party and one cabinet minister to step down. It passed tonight 158-133.

Damn Canada did something right without copying the US. lol :)
Seriously though, bravo. Too many against votes in my opinion, but still nice to see someone making a step in the right direction. Lord knows it's gonna be at least another five years before anyone will be able to try and pass something like that in the US.

it's funny, because of stuff like this is why my friend says, "canada is a great place to visit...when nobody else is around".
I, really dont agree with him, but he really doesnt like canada's laws and the party in charge much.
Unions are fine with me, makes it equal.

Well I personally think this is what makes Canada so great because we have a government willing to protect people's rights, freedoms and privacy. While "Liberal" may be a bad word in the U.S. right now, the majority of Canadians have voted for a party that is literally called the Liberal Party in the last 12 years. Either that or the NDP or Bloc Quebecois. Conservatives didn't have any more than 28% of the vote in the last election and that was actually considered pretty good at the time, so if your friend is Conservative, I can see why he'd feel uncomfortable here. Look at it this way, if we were part of the U.S., Bush would be out looking for a new job.
IMO this SSM bill passing is great news because it finally puts to rest all the debate about it, since well you can't just reverse a decision and take away these people's certificates now can you?

No one said you had to but you have to admit it sure as hell ain't right to deny someone the right to love whomever they damn well please.

Yeah well even if I find two guys kissing to be disgusting, I don't have to be invading their private lives. I don't even have to be their friends or accept it as normal. I just accept their freedom to do it and I also accept their freedom to marry.
BTW two women kissing is too hot, don't say that is a bad thing. It's like art.

As I always say, it's not like they're getting married in your pants.
This bill does not affect straight people in any way, so I see no reason for them to object to it. They're not forcing you to be gay, they're not forcing your ministers to perform gay ceremonies, they're not ever going to force you to do anything even remotely gay, and it doesn't devalue your own marriage either.
Basically, if you oppose this, slag off, because nobody wants to hear your whiny arguments about why you want to ban gay marriage out of spite.

Cool, but I don't like how Martin forced his cabinet to vote for it.

I guess that's a reasonable complaint, but sometimes you gotta force the issue. Look at what happened to the US when we didn't force the issue of slavery.
Not the same kinda problem, but beating around the bush is habit forming.
