The voting system in the audio portal, fused with the immature mentality of the talentless masses is destroying the deserved recognition of the talented few.
The mass 0 voting and rigging of A-bots weekly Top 5 ruins any chance people have to get heard. I have been monitoring the audio forum and the portal for sometime to see if it is worthwhile submitting music to this site and the conclusion I have drawn is simply...NO, it is not.
Talented artists hard work is being undermined by the idiotic masses who make bad cover versions, childish songs about toilet humour and just generally bad thrown together techno crap.
I'm well aware that i'm saying nothing new, but I just had to vent my frustration at seeing good music makers work get overshadowed by fools with Fruity Loops and a bunch of preset sounds.
Here's hoping something will be done about the voting system, so that the AP can grow into something that is both fair and a place to showcase good quality music, catering for all tastes. End of Rant.

Ok you are asolutley correct about the state of the audio portal. Its like ive said before we need more effort put in to AP as FP gets.I mean have you seen whats at the top of A-bots current weekly faviorite. Some stupid cover of drop it like its hot using pre-voiced crap.Come on who the hell wants to here Stephen Hawkings sing a snoop dogg song. All the audo that is bought into the portal is shoved aside due to random voting and it just gets backlogged.I agree with you on the voting system but some of the stuff that comes in can be good.Covers of other songs can tend to be pretty decent(personally i think the ff7 covers are the best)but you are right about the stupid songa that invoke toilet humour. That kind of crap belongs on Ebaumsworld.Mabye audio artists should actually voice out towards Tom Fulp and the rest of the newgrounds staff and explain how they want the portal changing.

Things will even out when the ap comes into its own. The only reason zero voters have so much pull is because they are practically the only ones who vote on songs. More people need to vote, and blah blah blah. With the ap now literally one person can change the rankings of all the songs on the page due to most songs only getting a handful of votes. I think most songs I submit get 3 or 4 votes max. And one zero pretty much kills your score. A good example I got is one of my radio randoms tracks had a score of 4.76 for a couple days till 11pm on that tuesday, when the score spontaniously dropped to 3.27.
My best advise is to gather a fan base and hope you get enough support to outbalance the zero voters. Thats how the established artists work the ap.

i do help the AP more than people think. i go in the 0 places and start giving out 5's to the deserving ones. Its like reviving the dead.
And i think that you should have a fav track in your profile. that would help.

Just voting 5 on everything with out listening might make the artist feel better, but is not helping to cause at all. We want people to listen and vote fairly to all they can.

You know, whining about it's not going to fix the problem whatsoever. You look at the other people who've tried it, and it hasn't worked. The first person that probably filed a complaint about it was probably the only one who was effective, since after they spoke out, people have been trying to think of ideas to keep stuff like this from happening.
Until an idea or system comes along and is implented, be patient.

I agree with -Gooch-.
Sure, whining can get some anger off your chest from time to time, but it isn't going to change anything. Either make the complaint convincing or generate a system that works. Recently all my audio has been engulfed by 0 votes but i can't do anything about it. Yes, it pisses me off but, even though I don't deserve it, I have to face it.

They probably should a few of the songs on the frontpage. I know most people only watch the stuff on the frontpage and rarely go to the Audio Portal. That may not help give scores to QUALITY stuff, but it would at least give more votes instead of the 4 or 5 votes per entry there are now.

Probably the only audio artist on this entire site with a big enough fanbase to outweigh the 0's is ParagonX9. However, I do wonder though where he would be in the site score wise, if his music and only his music was not on the front page of the Audio Portal like it has been.

Here's the deal.
Newgrounds.com gets a shitload of traffic everyday. You know that, I know that. Now, the percentage of traffic TO the audio portal is less than 5% of the site's total traffic. What does this mean? Well, first, it means that the focus of the site is not on the audio portal, but on the flash side. This does suck for the audio artists (like me) who spend tons of time making audio for the flash authors to use. But, you have to remember, it's all about sharing, and helping out the flash authors by giving them a huge variety of audio to work with.
Ok. Problem is, the flash authors scouting for music are coming to the audio portal in search of decent songs are getting frustrated because the system isn't setup the way you'd like it to be. The system right now is basically just a random bank of data, audio data, in no order, and not moderated appropriately.
The things that are IN THE WORKS (hopefully) are a few things:
-Mods able to delete "joke" submissions.
-Fair voting (meaning people may vote more than once on a single submission).
-More emphasis on the audio portal, so people will actually listen to the audio.
-Points awarded for voting on Audio submissions, to create more traffic here.
Once the audio portal gets major work done, you'll see TWO things happen.
1. The flash movies will use audio portal movies more often.
2. The scores for Audio portal submissions will be much more accurate.
________________
I'm hopeful.

Here is another think that I find jokefull about the AP, how some people can cheat to get awards like a DIAMOND. How on earth did Saint_Isaiah's Techno song The Spirits Within [which was released on 3/11/2005] get 7,890 DL'sin only about 3 months. I ran it in a calculator and that means he is getting 74.4245283018868 or (74) Downloads a day on that song. This one song of his song beats all of ParagonX9's song but Chaoz Devotion which has 8,729 DLs and was released in 8/14/2004...7 months before his. It also beats czer323 - Techno Fun5 Fixed which has 7,584DL's and was released on 11/14/2003. Someone had a lot of time me thinks. I have really not seen a huge abuse of this seeing as how it probably takes someone an entire day and loss of feeling in your fingers to do this, but apparent abuses like this are sort of funny. The one thing I think would be could in the AP, would be awards or a blam/protect system. Well, I'm done on this thread, I'm sure RedCircle is right and the AP will change for the better for all you Audio Artists out there. I think that the Admins here genually care about all of you, it's just a lot of hard work for them. At least you all got some sort of AP contest from what I saw on another thread.

I agree. Even though I don't particularly care about what my songs get, but it would be nice if at least one of my songs made it on the first page on the Heavy Metal genre. They all did at one point, then the population of 0 voter-town raised. I think a fan base is a great idea and Tvs_Slayer, you should lead it.

They are two different things.
People who are signed up on garageband are also Musicians themselves, so it's a HUGE fight for most people to get "signed."
NG's Audio portal is all about sharing, and helping out the flash authors.
BIG DIFFERENCE DUDE

I would agree, I would LOVE for a label to send me champagne, a diamond encrusted hunk of gold buillon and a ka-jillion dollars cash but when I was around 17 I realized that wasn't gonna happen...
You think zero votes and random bashing are bad here? Hell the only thing you can get here is a tiny a-bot listing for a few days - imagine if there were MONEY involved!
I have an account on garageband... it's sitting inactive and probably will be until they delete or disable it... I like NG better...
Personally, I DO hope that people like my submissions, but if they don't then I won't lose sleep over it as I'm not here for a chance to get signed...
But for any of you who will be taking part in the mass exodus - I wish you well... It's too bad that you won't be contributing to NG anymore...
A real shame too , seeing as how the G4 spot will probably double traffic for a while.

It's true aie? G4 there's millions watching AOTS everyday. But I know I am not good enough to go on a site that's money involved. I actually enjoy doing SMA more than music but I still like music a lot...

yeah The audio portal is weak, Its needs to be reformed, not just the voting system but the state its in, ITs not very attractive. NOt too many people are coming on NG for music.

I've lost count of the number of times I've said this. The AP is NOT there as a showcase for audio artists - it exists primarily as a place where Flash artists can find some cool loops for their submissions.
If you're looking for more than to have your tune used in a cool (or not so cool) Flash movie or game, then yes, you probably should be putting your music on Soundclicks or Garageband. I don't really see any reason to remove your tracks from NG, though; although I can totally understand why musicians get frustrated with the unweighted and biased voting that goes on in the AP.

Hey man, the way i see it, it's like this. You know how those old people are hooked up to those machines that help you breathe? Well, sometimes they ask you to unplug the machine because they want to die. You don't want them to go, but you just have to., because it's the right thing to do.

Nah its nothing like that. Look the audio portal like Denvish say's is jsut for flash artists to get a song or a little loop. it is not for to become a grnad musician and what not.
The audio portal just needs a clean up with all the junk. As soon as I have enough loops that are good qaulity im going to submit them and take off all my other crappy shit on my profile with all those crappy midi remix's.... More people should start doing like me
The audio portal is good just not the people in it....
