BitTorrent help! 2005-06-24 21:37:29 Reply

I want to get a few episodes of a certain anime show by downloadiing them onto my computer. However, these certain files need a program like BitTorrent or BitTornado in order to get the download.

Now, I just downloaded BitTornado (something HIGHLY similar to BitTorrent). I have questions on this program.

1. How do you know when its downloading?
2. How long does it take to download an episode?
3. How do you use it?

If anyone can answer these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

1. How do you know when its downloading? Look at the download rate, if it's above 0kbps, than it is downloading.
2. How long does it take to download an episode? It would depend on the number of people you're connected to. The more, the faster.
3. How do you use it? Just download the .torrent file, and open it with BitTornado. It'll ask you to save to a specific place. Pick a folder, and let it download.

... Not if you're on a old machine. When I tried to get the Gentoo ISO off Bittorrent with Azureus it was fucking shitty. The download didn't take long, no, but unfortunately Java is like Flash in the sense the quality of the apps depends on the quality of the machine. In other words, it'll make you want to kill yourself the entire time it's downloading. The great thing about Azureus, like Limewire, is it is available for other platforms.

If you don't have a good machine, Azureus will be unbearable, and you should get BitComet. If you're running off a fast machine, you still may not like it because it will have a tendency to slow down the rest of your apps a little or a lot.

omg.

Java is an extreme whore relative to native applications, and it is quite noticable on an older computer (e.g. my 501 MHz PIII w/ 64 MiB RAM hated it, but BitComet was fine).

Exactly. I only have a 333 MHz Pentium something, and if I run Azureus, that is *all* I run. I use BitComet primarily, because it is written in C++ and therefore runs much more quickly and efficiently. Java and Python, being inherently interpreted languages, involve a tradeoff: Portability for Speed. such is my experience, in any case.

As a side note, I have experimented with many BitTorrent clients, and I have found that Azureus, for some reason, seems to have a higher download rate than any other, even connected to the same torrents. Does this strike anyone else as a bit odd?

It's only illegal if you SELL the stuff as your own.

By the way, thank you all for the responses.
