Yeah.. it's unfortunate but by design, the same anonymity offered that allows for people to be more expressive also allows for that expression to be negative. And because the scores are an average, a vote will affect your score more the farther away from the current number it is...
I wouldn't worry about it though - you're still up in the 4.xx range and that's pretty damn good.
If someone "fixed" the scoring to keep everyone here happy, then it would most likely still be an unfair system for someone. - it's NOT the system! - it's some of the USERS!
All in all though, what I love about the AP (so far) is everything that it was never meant to be...
It was never meant to be a showcase for audio talent, this has been pointed out several times in many places by multiple people - but even though it was never meant to be, it sort of is.
Although this isn't just concerning the AP, the AP was never meant to be a bbs - and I've seen a few ppl getting really bitchy about it too - even a few posts here and there about NG is for the flash... blah blah... we'll just take the bbs away... blah blah... if you kids don't stop it, I'll turn this car around... blah blah... But alot of good , funny and een insightful (on occasion) threads have been made and read by many many ppl.
Apparently, the AP was originally intended to allow one set of artists the golden opportunity of working hard to produce a really nice piece of work to be used as support material for another set of artists.... or even worse - so that a cut-rate flashole could butcher it by using it as m00zik 4 sih sti(K fi6hTer moveh!
What I love about it, is that it has grown beyond the original purpose, it's taken on a life of it's own and evolved into something that by all accounts was never intended.
I generally work all day sitting in front of a pc. Although it's not much, flipping back and forth to NG, specifically the ap and the boards, allows me to temporarily forget about the crap that I'm constantly wading through for work... It's like a little mini-getaway for a few minutes here and there - a sub-micro-vacation spot that I can visit throughout the day.
Sorry guys - I didn't mean to write a damn book -

I know that feeling...........
I totally agree with your point, it's great the Audio Portal has evolved into something it was never intended to be, I just wish more people could see it that way, rather than concentrating on the negatives.

I made a topic like this a week ago (I could be wrong) but yeah, I think the audio portal's great. People just hate the 0-voters.
Well, I did a song not too long ago but it was only an intro. People asked me to do the whole thing but I decided to wait until the end of the week to decide whether I'm gonna do the whole song or not, click here for the intro, and if it's below 3.50/5.00 by Monday, screw it I ain't doing the song. If it's 3.50/5.00 or higher, I'll do the song. So if it's under3.5 then other people who want to hear the whole thing WILL miss out. That WILL be the 0-4 voters fault.
Back to the point though, people just have problems with the 0-voters and that's why they complain so much about the AP. If they just ignored/accepted it, or ideally have the 0-voters go away, there would be a lot less rants about the AP. I have learned to accept it, so I can only say good positive things towards the Audio Portal.
It definately has a system that works well if you think about it. Crap songs get downrated, publically good songs remain at a good score (Gorebastard as a good example) and everything available to grounds gold members is free (I think). I can't really say a bad thing about it. Though the amount of songs on each page should increase (maybe to 75 songs per page rather than 50) then lower-scoring songs can still be on the front page and not be ignored.

im gonna make a poster that says "downrating's for TWINKS!"
then show a pic of that pierre guy from chrono cross (the frooftyflonde one with the feather hat and pointy sword) posing and blowing a kiss - thatll scare them off!
Unless they LIKE being twinks..

Same. I love gettin feedback from all types of people. I also love the AP because I love checking out new music and the AP has a pretty good variety of genres even though i mostly linger around the punk and ska pages.

The audio portal sucks, because of the fucking zero voters who shit on well written music and clutter the portal with their shit that somehow people give good reviews to for some unknown reason.
The audio portal would actually kick ass if all the zero voters were thrown into a pool of pirhana infested water.

This topic was meant for those who like the portal, not for those who hate it.
So in general, if you have nothing relevant to the topic to say. Dont say it.

zero voters should all go choke on cornflakes....
but yeah this is suppose to say all the good things about the AP
plus after the zero voter (yes thats right singuler) bashed all my music I did not get any zero voters since.
So im only going up!
Also an other good thing about the Ap is if you vote 4 right away it is usually forgotten and that means it won't go up or down so if you like a score that's 4 do what I do vote and then hide...

I love the audio portal. It's definitely what drove me to learn programs such as fruity loops, reason, sound forge... I wouldn't know much about making music without it. Hearing great music from great artists inspired me to learn, and make my own music. I realize that I get really impatient with the negatives of the audio portal, and I let that show in my review responses. It sucks that it has to be that way. That a single vote can be a kiss of death. My latest songs got zeroed pretty much as soon as I submitted them, which shocked me. That was a new low for the audio portal! However, despite that I still see reasons to continue submitting. A personal quest to get better, and knowing that I don't submit bad music :)
I can't believe I didn't find the audio bbs until now either... it's like a safe haven for everything that is good and right in this world!

no offence pandora but the energizer bunny is a fraud.
Durocell, Energizer are the worst batteries for the big company names, Rayovak or something like that is the best.
Science project I had a few years ago with battery lastage the bunny does not keep on going. Just thought I would like to say a few useless facts about battaries

Sorry - can't agree there - the portal does have it's problems - to say that nothing is wrong with it isn't accurate but overall the portal functions well enough - for now...
as I've stated before, the AP is a great place to hear what other people are doing musically, it's awesome as far as getting royalty free clips for flash submissions - although most flash artists don't take full advantage of it - I've only seen a small handful of flash submissions that contain music from the portal. Yes, there is a button, yes it's right next to the Flash AP button but I don't think that many flash artists are really aware of the audio goldmine that's sitting right in front of 'em.
If there were just a little bit more awareness on the part of the flash authors, I think that the AP would be better used...

I find it quite hilarious when a crappy flash uses a professional intense loop. They should pick some goofy ap loops to go with their goofy little flashes
