Listen to all of the basic stuff - amen breaks and what not - get a few bars together - now throw in a bit of syncopation - chop up a bar and re-arrange it eg: assuming 16th - instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8...etc your new bar might go 1,2,3,6,4,5,8,10,7,etc...

Using two or three good bars you should be able to create an almost unlimited number of combos ... Then you'll need a few really rippin' fills - get really familiar with 32nd triplets - you'll use 'em....

If you have no idea what I'm saying then I could try to clarify but then again - I might not even know what I'm talkin' about!!

good luck!

I hope I helped (at least a little)

I'll check this thread over the weekend and I'll think about it a bit more...

I'm not claiming to be some D&B master or anything - you could listen to my crap and judge for yourself but I do know a few tricks...

BTW - what software are you using? - I may be able to give more specific suggestions if I knew...

rip it up...

u need help with dnb drums jus send me a message on aim or msn an i can throw u together some basic dnb style drums.

as far as dnb goes, i like it fast and agressive, not everyone likes that.

id actually start with the drums, make them how you want them first, and base everything else off them.

It's a sample that was originally taken from a song titled "Amen brother" - anyway someone used it somewhere and it spread like wildfire - It's actually kind of trite now as it's been overused but if you heard it you'd know it for sure.

Here's a link - scroll down a bit and you'll find it there

Amen Break on this page

Anyhoo... It's infectious - a tried and true staple of D&B and Jungle

Anyone got an explanation for what z-planing is? A dnb artist in training i know told me about it, its something to do with making mutated sounding basslines, but i'm not sure what it is.

Not a clue to be honest but in 3-d programs the Z axis usually refers to an objects depth coordinates - front to back... And I'm pretty sure that in aeronautical terminology it's when something is either coming right at you or moving directly away... So I'm guessing that someone coined a term and applied it to DnB...

According to your description concerning warped up basslines I would guess that it refers to the use of a modifier like an LFO maybe to automate something about the sound resulting an a.... Damn... you can tell I'm just making this up now can't you...

I was obviously only joking before but in all seriousness, I'd do a little experimenting with multiple LFO's - Hell, even put LFO's on the LFO's if you can and plug those into all of the parameters that you can and see what happens...

You know what? I'm not even sure what an LFO does, i know that its a low frequency osc, fine, but whys it different or necessary? Are they there to make the sound tidier/dirtier?

Think about manually turning a knob or a slider back and forth slowly to change
something - pitch modulation etc... An LFO can automate that for you.
Hope that helps

btw - I'll get on AIM in a day or two - I'm getting ready to leave for the night so I don't have time right now - but I'll catch you sometime and we'll have a chat.

No biggie - neither did I at one point... Granted that point was a fucking while ago but it doesn't matter... you know NOW!! :D

Later guys - I'm outta here...

uhhh.... what?

Personally, I love a good tardcake from time to time - there's nothing quite like a slice of tardcake served with ljcoffee. PiePie might disagree though - He'd probably go for some tardpie...

tardcakes plural? HEY! - wait a minute! - SolusLunes, were you calling me and SpamWarrior tardcakes!??!

"Chaoz Devotion" not a bad db song. If you really want to get the DnB
tactics, Calyx & Teebee have a few studio tips @ http://www.breakbeat.co.uk/dnbtv/

You'll see 'Latest Programs'. Skip that unless you see something you like.
Scroll down and click 'Expand...' on the 'More Feature' part. Scroll down just
a little more and you'll see Cylax & Teebee studio tips: Part 1 and 2.

This is probably the best site in the world to hang around for D&B anything.
All the pros are there. They have tons of interviews and all kinds of junk.

Woe. It went right over my head. I listened to some of your
stuff. You've got some crazy talent. Keep producing.

That site I mentioned is still great for advanced producers.
