Its a tradition that has been upheld here for an awfully long time and its not about to completely disapear. Figureheads are a symbol of unity and is something to look up to. In the US, you get to look up to George Bush......fair enough. But here Id rather have the monarch over Blair
yeah but she's a figure head that represents everything old about Imperial Britain. why do you think so many irish, indians, chinese, and other occupied forces hate her. while the american just think it;s usless.

The Queen in england is like the last emperor of China. She's just... there. She's pampered and well taken care of, but holds little power and autority over the country she "rules".
Holding onto a Queen or King even in a democratic society just shows you how unwilling a country is to reform or change.
We do need a queen, yes. Obviously she can't do as much 'cause of Charles I losing the Civil War, but, as they found out back in the day, a parliament run country was no fun. Oliver Cromwell banned all holidays, including Christmas, and basically ran a Dictatorship. After two years, English civilians rioted, supported Charles II and threw out Cromwell. England was then proclaimed as "Merry England".
The only problem I have with the royal family is that they are German. Call me old-fashioned, but i would prefer an English queen.

Aren't all the royalty genetically "mixed up"?
Scotish. Welsh. French. Here and there-- even some Italian through the Medici family...
Didn't Elizabeth grow up in Glamis, her "family castle"? (I don't know what you guys call it). You know, the same castle where Macbeth lived?
I doubt the Royal Family could be pure English.

Then I stand corrected. Sorry :P
I don't know what the name of that castle is either :P. Its in Scotland somewhere.
Why do we need a queen? Your right... we dont!
Shes just an old lady that eats peoples tax money and gives a speech everytime theres a new prime minister and every christmas, that values her dogs over other 'common' peoples lives, and that, being completely fair, has no part or important role in the UK. Ok she might have one, attracting all the tourists from America.
Otherwise shes useless
Ive never been a royalist lol as u can probably tell
I don't think people quite grasp what would happen if the monarchy was gotten rid of. Aside from President Blair, she makes our democratic system one of the most unique in the world and one of the best in my opinion.
I do think that there should be reforms within the monarchy and that they should do more work in the country. At the moment I think we need a more modern monarch. hopefully wed get that in Prince William
Up the Clarets!
Fuck no! I'd push her down some stairs if I had the chance.
Nothin much wrong with the Queen...but then again, she doesn't do much.
anyway, getting rid of her would cause a lot of uproar with the royal family die-hard...

All the European Royals were related to each other to keep the blood royal. best example is the last Russian Tsar married his German cousin. (before his whole family was gunned down by communists)

I'm glad the Queen has no real power anymore. Back when monarchs were in command of their monarchs, there was too much pressure to keep the crown in the family, so royal inbreeding led to crazy kings and queens.

Sorry, I meant to say 'back when monarchs were in command of their monarchies '.
