I know it can be done.

You'll need Firefox, Video Downloader for said firefox and MediaCoder. (fortunatly all free).

Using video downloader, Go to the video on youtube and click the icon in the status bar for video downloader (normally left of 'adscence'. The rest is pretty simple, click download and save it somewhere.

You should get a .flv video. Now install and run MediaCoder (skip the setup wizard thing it asks you to do, you don't need it). It should go to the mediacoder UI.

Drag and drop the .flv into the white space and then click the tab labled 'video' bottom right. Set it to divx or something and anything else you want to play with, then hit start.

Thus, you should end up with a .avi file of the video! Groovy.
