In the U.S. ,especially online, pornography is a major problem. Kids too young to be seeing that kind stuff are finding new ways to get around their parents. Please post your thoughts here.

Parents need to learn that the internet is like matches.

Well, there is now a system where pornographic sites may have to contain .xxx in their url, so that scan programs can block them. Seems like the best idea to me.

You can't stop some kids getting into porn, but this method of blocking sites seems the best. Apparently Yahoo! is cracking down on their chatrooms too.

So what? What's the harm in kids seeing boobies?

It's perfectly natural to look at porn.

I know for a fact Virginia is a commonwealth.

That's why we have such crazy, crazy laws here.

If a kid wants porn, then they will go out of their way to find it. If someone wants it that badly, they are probably not going to be scarred by seeing it. The system I mentioned earlier seems the best method as it will block unwanted images. Another bonus is that sites that don't conform to the .xxx can be shut down for breaking the law.

If u stop kids from knowing about sex they become sexually repressed. That can lead to paedophiles, and all sorts of creepy fetishes. It is perfectly natural to look at porn, but it is when sick shits like the fucks who did tubgirl who cause problems. I do see the problem, but i think the .xxx method sounds the best

If they force all sites with pron on them to have an .xxx domain, Newgrounds.com will have to become Newgrounds.xxx

Officially Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia are all commonwealths, not states. The Northern Marianas Islands in the Pacific and the Island of Puerto Rico are also commonwealths, as is Washington DC.

I do believe a certain percentage would need to be porn in order for that to happen.

At any rate, I'm really tired of parents thinking that the internet is an appropriate unsupervised activity for their young children. Didn't the V-chip teach anyone what a fallacy it is to use modern technology as a babysitter?

You mean they actually used the V-chip? I heard something about it on the news a few years ago (I think) but I had no idea it was actually produced and sold!

Those blockers don't work for shit and/or they filter out pertinent, legitimate sites. Parents should stop letting their kids use internet unsupervised if they're spazzes about porn.

And yes, SkyCube, people used the V-Chip, and it was fecking annoying if you were a babysitter, and the parents didn't leave you the unlock code.

If you dont want your kids to watch porn, dont let them use the PC. End story. Stop bitching about the fact that society is falling down a deep hole, and winging about the government not doing anything, and about there being shit blocking software (and blocking software IS shit), and do your job as a parent. Put your PC in the kitchen or front room, or a regularly used room, and restrict use to only when you're in the house, and insist the door is open.

Eventually, your kid will hat eyou for trying to control his life, and you might work out that boobies aren't the worst thing he could be looking up. But there you go.

I wouldn't be really bothered in porn was banned from the internet totally. Then again, that's not the United States decision.

yeah the xxx in the url will be a great way to block kids from seeing the wierd crap on some of the sites, but softer-core porn can still find a way to seek through. Parents need to make sure that their kids aren't looking at this stuff by setting the restrictions on the browser they are using and telling their kids what they can and can't view. Me, personally i look at porn all the time, but i'm not a parent yet so i'll just shut my mouth for now.

You have a problem reading. matches are also very useful. I was allowed to light the stove when I was 6 and 7 years old. Just not without supervision. Do you see the key word there?

I don't have a problem with kids on the internet either. What I have a problem with is unsupervised surfing, and then a parent blaming the internet for what their child sees.

I blame it on the parents with no supervision because kids today are smart and can get around stuff like that. I did...

It's the parents job to secure their net connections, not the govts. or anyone elses. If a parent want to get a blocker program, they can (most kids don't figure those things out anyway). Meanwhile, let the perverts buy their porn.
