New Internet porn domain draws fire
LONDON | June 03, 2005 7:11:22 PM IST
Within hours of the organization responsible for Internet addresses approving a .xxx domain for porn sites, objections began piling up.

Lol. That's very creative. Now everyone can just type in some sexy title and .xxx after it and presto! You get pr0n.
No objection.

Just makes it easier to filter for parents. I really don't see what the problem is.

The link ain't working for me for some reason. :-(
Anyway, I don't see what's wrong with it. As long as there's no law forcing sites with pr0n on them to have .xxx domains, then I have no problem with it.

Eh, I have mixed feelings... Sure it would make it easier for parents to filter out and would take some pressure off the porn industry as being "culprits for corrupting the youth of the world". However, by making it easier for automatic filtering, it gives parents the freedom to not play an active role in actual parenting ...Then we just have more censorship based on age and not maturity... So I suppose im impartial either way...

Hmmm, that link isn't working for me anymore either. Here's another related new article about it.

I've been hearing plans for things like this for years, and in a topic in general. Basically it's establishing a completly seperate network. I don't see how this is taking away a parents active role in parenting unless you consider active parenting actually leaning over your kids computer all the time. Access to porn should be restricted.

It'll make them easier to block, and teenagers will find different ways around the blocking software. I fail to see that this will have a major effect at either increasing the amout of adults/teenagers viewing porn, or have anything more than a sdlight benefit to blocking software. I dont oppose it, although i think the .xxx domain is daft, as .com is easier.

this is the age of communitcation and tecvhnology people!!! it shouldnt matter if there is a new domain for pr0n...what, should the FCC and CRTC be worried that by adding .biz, there will be more ad creep and there will be further corporate exporsure to today's youth? of course NOT!!!!!!!!!

i can see how it is easier to filter since there are like at least 50 new porn sites a day and the blocking companies can't catch them all also it would be easier to search the computer for just .xxx cookies instead of .com for parents

Why would people object. First off its voluntary, second off it is nothing new. I mean .org is saved for mainly non-profit organizations, .ca for Canadians, .gov for government, whats wrong with .xxx?

This would save alot of time and finally dumbasses would stop going to pornd sites when they go to www.whitehouse.com. I don't really see why someone would oppose this its not like people don't know theres porn on the internet so making the XXX domain names just streamline everything.

Parents, you dumb twat, would welcome an .xxx domain.
So the objectors are the ones that Thiught it was ok to link it's 'coool' for their progeny to see a snuff film.
I wonder if you'll laugh when its an acquaintance,

I believe the only concern was from the porn industry itself. They were making complaints like "using a .xxx domain could alien clientel" and "internet providers might eventually feel pressured from parents to do a full ban on .xxx addresses". Both valid claims, and also the only downside that I could possibly see.

If somebody says something you don't agree with do you have to call them a dumbsit a twatzor ora dumb twat?,no, so why the hell do you ban people when they do it yet you're doing it??, i'm not tryin to be rude I'm just asking a simple question.

Exactly. I mean, c'mon... does anyone remember whitehouse.com?
We've needed a pr0n top-level domain for about a decade. I'm surprised it took this long.

I honestly think it's a great idea. This way, the family safe material will have their separate domain extensions and all the (or most of the) extreme adults-only content will have a separate domain extension.
I like the idea.

wont porns sites have to pay to relocate their website's addresses to .xxx?
they are probably unhappy about that..unless its a free transition, they are just issued a new .xxx with the former ****.com, just a new letter scheme after the dot.
i think it's a good idea really, parents can now keep all porn from their kids by simply not allowing .xxx websites, .com will finally be free from getting a porn site when researching. and those sick internet fucks who exploit children can easily be aprehended because they too would probably have to change and if they dont, we'll they'll probably wont have a huge curtin of porn to cover up their own site that may still have a .com .org. .whatever adress other then .xxx.

I like this quote in the article:
Why should .xxx get precedence over schools, churches, civic groups, aboriginal communities, labor organizations, and artistic groups?
Hmmm maybe because porn is the #1 business on the net?

i agree with bigblueballs...a domain name of .xxx or .cum(as listed above) would be better because of how simple it would be to filter out because some porn sites have viruses on them and when they get onto your computer parents get mad and then they lose a lot of important stuff and get mad at the kids...with .xxx it would be easier to moniter it for the parents and/or guardian.

This wont change shit. There will still be pornsites on .com and others.
Also, I'd rather have it be .cum
