making a lightsaber,how?

I am not asking how to make the hilt,I am talking about the 'light' part of the 'light'saber.
I searched for tutorials in google but they are all crap.I don't care if it is in Maya,Swift 3D,photoshop,or flash.
If you know how to make a cool lightsaber effect or if you know any good tutorials,can you help me?

Something like this?

make a bright line, white or yellow
make it a symbol
double click the symbol
add new layer uncer the light layer
what ever color, set the alpha low
copy it, past it in place, but move it
repeat as disred

photoshop...so many ways..
and a million tut's on it
fastest way is to justget a color, filter neon glow
the guasses blur it as you wish

doesnt look super great but looks good if imported into flash

but just google search light saber tuturals, you will get alot of hits

You just did it more then once. I just wipped up something quick to show him, and if he needed more instructions on how to do it, then i would tell him. But yours does look a little better.

...thickness:10
highlight the line & use modify -> shape -> convert lines to fills
highlight it again & use modify -> shape -> soften fill edges (I used distance:13/ steps:13 on this one)
you can also select the inside (center) shape& give it a gradient (in this case yellow-white-yellow) fill
when you're happy with the result select the whole thing & convert it to movie clip.

If you use gradients that have a very light color near the middle and grow darker then reduce to an alpha near the edges it looks pretty cool and add the same symbol underneath but bigger and with an alpha, like was already mentioned...

Hm..? When I did the same(imported a video)(lol, that was stupid) i saw everything clearly
maybe you should make the video smaller(select edit multiple frames at the timeline select the frames where the movie is and higlight the are and make it smaller (if you understood)

ok, heres how you do it. pick the color you want your lightsaber to be. then, double click your rectangle tool and change the corner radius to 5 points. now make a rectangle, and make it the size you want the lightsaber to be. then, select the whole rectangle, go to modify, and click change lines to fills. then, select the lightsaber again, and click soften fill edges. make the radius 20 px (best for a light saber) and then you will get a fade off for your light saber. then just click the middle fill and delete it, then fill it with white color (or just leave it blank). the finished project should look something like this.

ohhhhhh!!!! yoru doing it like that! well, then...dont go so fast. do your moves slow on camera, and then when you change it to the lighsaber on flash, then just higher the fps
