Hey! I've played bass for 2 years, I'm in two bands, and I can do pretty much any style. I'm pretty damn good (one of the best in my school district) and I play a Fender Jazz bass. It's a standard edition (MIM) but I put on a tor PG and and Custom '60s Pickups; it sounds nicer than most Americans, now! I dearly want a Musicman Stingray for funk and such, a '70s Fender Jazz, and a few other basses, including a Ricenbacker 4003 or 4001. My favorite bassists:
Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report, solo) RIP
Flea (RHCP)
Marcus Miller
Victor Wooten
MarloweDK (Youtube)
Tim Commerford (RATM, Audioslave)
Geddy Lee (Rush)
John Entwhistle (Who) RIP
Jack Bruce (Cream)
Les Claypool (Primus, solo)
Mark King (Level 42)

I'd love to join your club!

The thing is that it has a lot of features (from what I can tell: neck through design, active electronics,) and often on cheaper basses, the number of features comes at the cost of build quality so I would avoid it.

i have a 550 euro limit, so if anyone has some good suggestions, bring 'em on.

Basically anything with Ibanez on the headstock, they are really one of the few companies that do 5 strings really worth looking at.

Man, I feel like an idiot for asking what basses are good and all that. I mean I have a BC Rich Metal Master Warlock, and I love that guitar. I'm seriously looking at getting this bass (check the average rating). 4 out of 5 stars is pretty good for a $230 bass. I realize that there are better basses out there, but this one is a good quality bass for the price.

Eh, I'd better stop my rambling before I say something completely idiotic.

All I can really say is BC Rich Bronze Series = AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. And never trust internet reviews alone cause they are easy to make up.

Meh. At this point, I really don't care. I actually tried one at my local guitar center, and it sounded pretty good. Also, I am one hell of a stubborn SOB. I'll probably still get that bass.

Did you try every other bass in the store that was in your price range or just had a look at that one? And I bet I can be more stubborn than you.

Hey guys, I would like to join. I'm not technically a bass player (I pick it up occasionally) but I play alot of classical and spanish guitar styles( Fingerpicking, so I can cross over to bass pretty easy). The main reason I want to join is because when I try to discuss fingerpicking technique over at the guitar forum they ignore, bunch of shred-heads over there I guess. My favorite bass players are Billy Sheehan,Tony Choy,Les Claypool and Steve DiGiorgio.

having expierence with strumming will definately make the step to playing bass easier, though playing guitar and bass are both seperate things, seeing don't take such a leading role with riffs with bass guitars.

as a beginner you might want to learn some basic riffs.

little green bag - george baker, stick with the intro, it's an excellent finger exercise.

hey joe - jimi hendrix, excellent song with nice and easy bass solo, fun to play along n shit.

either a squier or ibanez will do fine for beginner bass guitars, gibson basses need a lot of fine tuning to sound right.

Just figured I'd go about posting a pic of my bass. It's a Fender Precision, made in America. The amp is a 100 watt Fender Rumble

I like the Jerry Garcia strap

ESP makes some nice stuff. Never played any of their basses, but my friend has one (maybe even that same model but in red) and he loves it. I played some of their guitars before and they're good.

And I'll post a picture of my stuff (cuz everyone's doing it).

Ibanez SRX 390, Snarling Dogs Bootsy Collins signature wah pedal, Digitech Bass Multi Chorus pedal, and a Fender Bassman 100 combo amp. Sorry for crappy quality.

I think he just meant a walking bassline played with your fingers.

And B.C. Rich do make good basses.

You mean just fingerpicking (ie: moves your fingers in a "walking" pattern), or playing walking basslines?

In any case, I always thought three-finger picking was one of the first things one was supposed to teach oneself / one of the first things you learn from an instructor.

And walking basslines are just funny.

i think he refers ''walking fingers'' to flamenco-esque strumming.

three finger strumming isn't a virtue, i've been playing with two fingers (strumming) and haven't encountered any problems playing any song so far, i can play fast licks with it.

I need some bass-related advice. I seem to have alot of trouble singing while playing

Does anybody know of any exercises that I can do to work this problem out?

Don't worry, most people who do bass and sing do.

Simplify the basslines. There is no cheating in it, a lot of bassist/vocalists do it. We can't all be Geddy Lee.
