Technically I don't believe asking what kind of music everyone likes will help. In order to get the people to like the music you can't let it get boring or repetitive, let it fit the mood of the game/movie. You don't want a happy giddy jumping song as the main character's love dies know what I mean. Usually songs in games have no lyrics unless it is a racing or something that the music is the only other form of entertainment while others have the story and puzzles. You really just need to think about what people could listen to when they play or watch the flash. Really they need to be able to connect the two. You are making a flash animation/game not one of those and some music. For an example of how this stuff is used, just look at the final fantasy series how many games can say they have a unique sound track where the songs are from the game only and not a colaboration of already existing songs?
cars == hard rock / heavy metal (Dity Deeds cover by Exodus)
rpg - really depends on the game - (from Loreena McKennit to Daft Punk (Homework)) - Fallout II soundtrack was perfect, espec the tanker in San Francisco
one on one - something Godzillian (like in SP MechaStraisand theme)
shoot 'em up - I hate those
Space - trance
I don't think I've helped you any <(/o.o\)>
