4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsFor a while now I've been wondering why file and printer sharing wasn't working on my LAN. Turns out the computers can't even ping other.
I have three Windows XP's (2 Pro, 1 Media Edition), connected wirelessly via a Belkin 802.11g router (with 128-bit WEP security). Each of them has an IP assigned by the router's DCHP, and a unique name (but I'll use numbers for ease).
Computer 1 can connect to Computer 2, and Computer 3 can connect to Computer 2 too, but Computer 2 can't connect to either.
So my question is: What's going wrong and how can I fix it?
im stumped my LAN works fine even when linking with 98 or me.

I'm wondering, is Computer 2 the Media Edition computer? If so, you most likely only need to change some firewall settings on all 3 computers to allow file and printer sharing. I'm to lazy to look it up right now, but at least that will hopefully guide you.

Computer 3 is the Media Edition; Computer 2 is a laptop (if that helps). Window's Firewall is turned off on all of the computers in favour for Sygate Personal Firewall, as well as my router's built-in firewall. I've tried messing around with the software firewalls, but nothing changes.
Are all of them running on the same Windows XP service pack? If not, that will cause problems. I found that out the when talking to a network tech. after about 2 months of my network not working. >:(
I could surely die

Try this, it might help you out some more. I know you said you already messed around with the software, but you can never be too safe.

Yes, they're all on SP2.

It worked! Thanks!
All that fiddling around with option, and I never thought to take a good look at the Network Neighbourhood tab.
Thank's everyone else too for trying to help.

Didn't you have the same problem for like 10 months ago?

I had a problem with my LAN, but I don't think it was with file and print sharing.
