Hey people, this is my first post and i want to start it good,
Lately it seems people don't understand the concept of quality. What makes a movie or flash gud. I need some answers NOW.
-What is it that people want in their flashes.
-What makes them like it.
-Do people enjoy graphics or story more.
-What is the best program to make flashes in.
I want to make my flashes good, i need something to start off with though. I don't understand html at all, my flash maker does not work, and don't have my own website. Like a parasite, or diease, say... malaria..., i need help to get on, i wish by using newgrounds to help me estabolish a place to stand. If anyone has any recommendations for me, please let me know.

html is pretty much just a web site. And since you have time to write you dont need to use useless abbreviation in your posts like "gud".

I like to see people trying pretty much. If it looks like they tryed then i will vote a little higher. Deafinantly origonal ideas. I for one dont like those anime type movies that all have the same plot and are all about fighting, even when done well i dont like them much.

Macromedia Flash. Student Flash for under $100.

I have very little knowledge about stuff like html, but I think that basically it is a programming language that is used to build websites. If you right click some web pages and go to View Source, the writing there is made up of html. Html has very little to do with Flash, as Flash uses it's own programming language called action script which is used mostly for games, but can be used to hold frames/scenes together and to create animated effects. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything I just said).

So, Movies. First I'll tell you what most people seem to enjoy, based on average scores I've seen and the top rated movies. Incredibly good animation, fighting scenes/violence, decent but predictable humour, and very occasionally a good original storyline. But foremost is the animation, I've seen movies with basically no storyline get scores above three because the animation was excellent. People want good sound, good music. They don't want to have to wait 5 minutes for a ten second movie to load because someone hasn't compressed the sound or set it to Stream. Unless the movie is really original/well animated/well written, people don't want to see stick figures.

According to my submissions, Graphics = half of Flash

There is no set template to what makes a crowd pleasing flash movie. Trying to distill what makes something good into a formula kind of takes the soul out of it, in my opinion. If you feel strongly about something and it drives you to make it well, people will respond favorably (for the most part).

Learn what you can from the movies that you like, but make your movie yours, make it unique.

That is my opinion on the matter, anyway.

You're so right. I feel bad about posting something that was basically a 'formula for success' on NG, not that what I posted is what I personally look for in a movie, but if you aren't truly interested in what you are doing you won't get much out of it.
My absolute favourite Flash's are the one's with deep emotion, characters with real feeling. Most of them have scores of about 3.8 because they're a little left of centre (IMO they should be in the mid 4's), while huge action filled Flash's with explosions and... I'm so going off on a tangent.
Basically, do what you really want to do, just don't change how you animate to accomodate what you think others want.

Don't feel bad about that. I mean, the kid was asking what people wanted to see. Using such keen trend spotting ability you could probably make bigger piles of money than you could ever know what to do with as a Hollywood producer. ;)
