I love Classical music. And although I am very keen on the more Avant-Garde musicians, Beethoven gets my vote.

My overall favourite Classical piece ? Pachelbel - 'Canon In D Major'

it's cool. i like all types of music, including ska and rap, which my friends consider an unusual combo. it's just that classical music is much more...well, soothing than other music in my opinion.

IMHO, it is as wide-ranging as everything else, there are thrilling pieces and very discordant pieces.

i love classical, its such an awsome mood setter. karl orff's carmina burana o fortuna is incredible, beehtoven's ode to joy is wonderful, and of course the moonlight sonata, all 3 parts though. most of it kicks ass i just dont listen to as much as i should.

true, very true, but it never gets near as loud as metal, am i right? sure, stuff like flight of the bumblebee and shit wasn't made for sitting and relaxing by the fire, but it's better than other music.

I think it can, 'The Rite Of Spring' by Igor Stravinsky is very dissonant, '1812 Overture' is very loud with cannons and Classical music could also be speedy (Rossini's 'William Tell Overture' being a good example).

Classical Music doesn't come in 'songs'. But my favorite piece would either be Bach's Bradenburg Concerto no. 2 or La Valse d'Amelie

Super love to Kurofelis for my siggy!

Ah, Wagner. I've often read that he was a pioneer of the Avant-Garde. I don't understand enough musical therom to say what is and what isn't, but my mentioning of the Avant-Garde earlier was about the more "out-there" artists. :)

Much <3 for J00 and Wagner.

really? i never really had much love for Wagner's work. not saying i disliked it, more that i've heard better, and don't appreciate it as much. sorry if i disagree, but i think there are many better.

Meh, it's not most peoples cup of tea. One of the Futurist manifestos (I think it is 'The Art Of Noises' by Luigi Russolo,), rats on Wagner.

He's a bit bombastic, but I still like him.

I rarely listen to classical but when I do, I enjoy Beethoven. Right now I am listening to Tchaikovsky.

I choose to disbelieve all these things that people say about Mozart, because I'm not all that keen on him.

Yeah classical is pretty much all I listen to and all I play on the piano. I was home sick for a few days recently so I watched Amadeus over and over again. Love that movie. My favorite composer is Chopin, and my favorite piece by him is the Heroic Polonaise (especially when played by Rubinstien!) and the Black Key Etude.
Only a few other people at my school listen to classical though. :-(

I've heard of him, he's allright, I find him a bit boring though.

Dawsdani, have you heard Wendy Carlos's rendition of the 9th in 'A Clockwork Orange' ?

Without a doubt, it's rendition is my favourite.

To be picky, Chopin, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and later Beethoven works don't really qualify as classical. The middle two are Romantic composers, Beethoven began the Romantic era, and Chopin was perhaps the very first Impressionist, which is even further out than Romanticism. Alright. Rant mode off.

I rather like all composers. Shostakovich is very interesting, especially his String Quartet No. 8. Seriously some crazy stuff. Bartok I think was on crack when he composed. Rachmaninoff is just indescribable. Liszt, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, Haydn, Berlioz, Bizet, Respighi, Franck, Wagner, Mozart, Schubert, Khachaturian, Schumann, Orff, and a million other ones. Khachaturian is especially underrated. Go buy some.

Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 5 has been a favorite of mine for years. Bach's Piano Concerto as played by Glenn Gould is tremendous. Any Bach played by Glenn Gould is awesome. Sonata Pathetique by Beethoven is great. Liszt's La Campanella is fantastic. Damn, I should stop now before I really get started.

Peace.
