Most of the time it's obvious in those situations... like if you posted in the level up lounge, "I'm not level 36", it would be pretty easy to surmise that you meant 'now rather than 'not'. I see what you mean though.
Some people have consistently shitty spelling and grammar, which can get slightly annoying, but I find it even more annoying when somebody who obviously knows how to spell gets corrected by some little smartass because they made a typo.

Basically at the time I signed up for NG, I did a lot of graffiti and street art. Every graffiti artist has a tag (which is kind of like an alias that you do all your work under), and my tag was 'nevr', which was derived from the word 'never'.
The second 'e' is absent because a lot of graffiti artists (including myself at the time) prefer not to repeat letters in their tag, so rather than trying to think of a word that you can style to look decent which also has no repeated letters, you simply remove the second repeated letter. Simple.
