I'm one of the people that downloads legally. What I'm more concerned about it that Apple let you download legally onto iTunes and if you get a new machine, you can't transfer the licence over to the new machine.

It's still better to buy the CDs and then rip them to the computer, as you've got the hard copy in your posession, so you can copy them to a second computer (home wireless network for example) or iPod if you get some new hardware.

Technically, just ripping the CD makes me a criminal. I just don't give a fuck.

I get bored in long tourneys and go stupid.
I think music would keep me calm and entertained.

You can transfer the license over, I've done it before. You can only do it 6 times, however.

It depends. What size (how many songs), how functional do you want it, are you bothered by a big screen, ability to show videos and such, etc? Do you want a little data stick type thing, or an ipod/creative zen type thing?

I do like how on the ipod you can search through songs by artist or whatever.. but im not sure if its really important.

It depends how much of an audiophile.

The sound quality will depend most on the headphones you use and the files you put on it, the actual MP3 player will make very little difference in my experience.

Consider getting something like a Creative Zen Micro. Just because they're small and awesome.

Personally the Zune looks like really nice to me. 80GB and it includes all that photo and video crap. Although thier a bit pricey. ($250 i think)

I am thinking of getting one sometime soon. Considering it's enormous 80 GB memory, $250 is not a bad price to pay at all.

If you're going to buy a zune, in my opinion, you'd be a lot better off buying an ipod or a creative zen, they have better firmware, better navigation, and are all-round cleaner products than the zune.

Fair enough, I've had an ipod for around 3 years now, so I'm a fan, but I just don't like the zune. My friend has one, and while the video playback is superior to pretty much everything shy of an archos, I wasn't a big fan of its other features, such as brown. The wifi song trading just seemed like a gimmick, you need to mod it or else they can only listen to the song three times, in which case you may as well just give them an earphone.

The creative, on the other hand, is very nice, sleek, well designed, and intuitive. It's got a wildly different menu system to the ipod, something that bugged me to no end, but no doubt if you bought one with no experience with ipods you'd pick it up dead quickly. The touch-strip down the middle was also quite sensitive, a bit too much for my preferences, but then again, I'm a spastic, and apparently you can change the sensitivity in the settings, so I wouldn't concern yourself with that too much.

I have had the experience of both a Creative and an iPod.

If you only want music, go for the Creative, photos, videos, fancy looking sleek design bullshit: iPod.

I got the big Ipod, when it first came out, for Christmas, and I seriously don't remember what I did with it. The batteries in it stopped charging properly after a year and I think I just threw it in the corner of my room only to have it covered up with clothes.

And then I learned the joys of having music on your computer. For me, it's all I need.

Well, one iPod comes to mind: the iPod Nano.

It has a little bit of video just in case you find a video you want to have with you.

I have a 4GB 2nd generation one (aluminium case) and its perfect, it wakes me up in the morning, it provides entertainment in the car/bus/whatever, and it keeps me awake.

I'm lucky to have a laptop since I can just take it to class. When my schedule changes in the future, maybe I will want to invest in another MP3, but that's over a year away.
