Spoiled rich kid? I think not! My car is a passion for me and I had to work at Subway for minimum wage to pay for the gas godammit!

Er, Implodinggoat, if you want to look tough, quoting Star Trek in your sig is no way to go about it! ;D
As for 1984, it's not specifically about Communist states; it's a vision of the extent of terror that totalitarian regimes could dominate us with in the future. The politico-economic orientation of the regime is somewhat irrelevant. Remember, Orwell himself was a radical left-winger, fighting the facists in the Spanish Civil war. His oppostion to both facism and the Stalinist regime was because of their violent, authoritarian government, not because he saw Socialism as unworkable. Similarly, Animal Farm was written in the same vein as Trotsky's "The Revolution Betrayed", criticising Stalin's bastardisation of what the revolution had stood for.
Slizor, I think Orwell's "Down and Out in Paris and London" might interest you, if you haven't heard of it.

It's been a while since I read it but was't there something about EngSoc, or something like that. However, I do agree, what I found with the book was that at times the government seemed right-wing and then left-wing.

It also critisizes Trotsky(I know you didn't say it didn't...just thought I'd add:))

Thankies. Is this one of his essays, or a story?

Er, kind of both. For a couple of years in the 1920s he was more or less homeless in the cities of Paris and London and he talks about his experiences and insights. Well, I liked it.

I think that quote outdates Star Trek. I'd look it up but I don't have that much free time.

Or if you prefer:

Whats the signifigance to that statement? Of course "it's better to live on your feet than die on your knees"
I was trying to express my feelings about big goverment. In other words if someone tried to make the U.S. into a socialist state I'd die before seeing it happen (either that or move to New Zealand).
I wish Thomas Jefferson was still around, he would of bitch slapped some American senetors for the unconstitutional bullshit they've passed over the years.
