It varies, if you like sampling, then go with Magix or something that has mutli-track sampling stuff.

Fruity and Reason software are very in depth, and complex, but are crafted for beginners.

A pretty good newcomer is Project 5 Version 2. I was on the beta team for this, and it's a really nice program for beginners to use. Their demo is up on cakewalk.com, you should check it out:

If that's too much for you, try Energy XT:

Good Luck!

Don't use software. Software in general is for beginners, INCLUDING Reason. Now, before you all start to send me hate mail, lemme explain:

Software ALWAYS has ALOT of restrictions, because of your computer's limitations and because of the fact that no computer programmer can be so smart to make a perfect program (Sidenote: Except my neighbour... He's holding a gun to mah head now :| ). Hardware however, has NO restrictions, but is kinda hard, because of the fact the you gotte find all your samples yourself, place yourself and sculpture yourself. Compare it with this:

Software - You get a piece of paper, with the outer lines of the image already drawn. And yes, you'll get your crayons ;)

Hardware - You get a piece of paper. The only restriction in the piece of paper and your own creativity :)
