First off, I'll say that I have practically no experience with burning CDs, so lets hope I give the right details. Basically, there are a bunch of mp3s/wavs that I've downloaded from the audio portal, they are currently 'Winamp Media Files', and I've burnt them to a CD. The problem is that they will only play on computer and a cd player that was bought in the last few months, but not on any of the older cd players including my diskman.
I was wondering if this may have something to do with them being WMFs? Or something else entirely?
Thanks!

It sounds to me like u have burnt them onto CDRW. They will only play in specific machines, so try getting hold of some CDRs instead and see if that helps, thats all i can think of.

Nah, it's definately a CD-R. But thanks.

Older cd players and diskmans cant play wma's. I think you might need to change it to wav and then burn it

This is the part that confuses me, how did they turn into that extension in the first place when I haven't gone out of my way to change the extension from a wav/mp3?

u need to just change programs, or convert them all to .mp3 (try not to have mixed formats when you burn disks)
windows media player is the best for burning audio disks in my opinion.

After u´ve burned a music CD that u intend on listening to on regular CDplayers, u must close the CD. When closed, U can´t add any more material onto the CDR. Note; I´m not 100% that it´s actually called "closed" in eng. versions of programs (ive only had swe. v.), hopefully you understand what I mean.
Normally the program will ask you if you wish to do so. If this is not the case, then its possible that u´ve made the CD "wrong" from the beginning, many programs has the possibilite to choose when u start, what type of CD u want (for storage, music, and maybe some other choises). What choises there are depends on your program. Music CD is, of course, the choose you should make. Often u get this choise when starting up the prog.
Hope something of this helps...

Hi AGH,
Maybe you should download dbpoweramp. It can convert any audio format to any audio format (though mp3 encoding is on a 30 day trial basis only).

You have to burn it as a music cd, with the table of contents (ie, finalization) on the inner ring.

I've always used Nero, and never had the problem AGH describes

I use iTunes, which works perfectly fine for burning Audio Portal music.

Here is how it stands at the moment: I am using Nero Smart Start, the tracks are all mp3s. I burnt the music to a cd again (all in a logical way: select music, burn mp3), but for some reason it is asking for DVD-R/RW cd rather than a CD-R. I tried burning it to a DVD-R simply for the sake of trying, it obviously didn't work. My only guess is that we are missing whatever part of the program it is that is required to burn the tracks to a CD-R, as there is no option for it.
Unless there is some logical explanation for this, does anyone know of a decent, free, simple to use music burning program?

Please disregard most of the previous post. To be more specific, in Nero StartSmart when I click on the mp3 button in the CD section, it does nothing. Click it and no window comes up, so we must not have that part of the program.

Ah, fuck it. This is not my night. Now I have seven Nero windows popping up about five minutes later, my computer has been having a lot of problems with speed lately. Sorry for the triple post, and I will only post again if something fucks up and it doesn't work. In other words, hopefully not again.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

LISTEN TO ME
Forget all these other posts, in this thread.
To be universally playable in any CD drive, that including old stereos, and some Portable CD players.
You need to:
1: Makes sure the CD is CD-R
2: Convert the mp3/wav file formats, to AIFF BEFORE burning it.
If you do this correctly, it will play on literally any CD drive out there.

I just thought I'd say that I've figured out the setting I need to use in StartSmart (it was just something really simple that I was doing wrong), and I definately didn't need to convert any of the mp3's to AIFFs to burn the music.
Thanks again.

You might have to download a conversion software. You can convert it to mp3. thats what i do and it works in my car and my cd player. im not shure which one would be good for you because im nut shure exactly what one type you want them to be. but just chek online alot of them are free sample downloads.

Be sure and burn them as audio and not data.
