I'm surprised to not see any acoustic treatment. Now why would an acoustically intelligent person like yourself not have that? Just curious

Yeah, I was agonizing over it for a while. For ages I've been wanting to stick in some dirty big bass-traps, but over the past year or two I've managed to cut out a lot of the issues that have been plaguing this room. The whole room has been arranged around the speaker positioning. The speakers are more or less in the most ideal place in this room.

I've decoupled the speakers acoustically from the desk with some nice dense foam blocks (poor mans MoPAD :P). I've also blocked up all the ports on my monitors and my sub to reduce the bass extension.

Standing waves were a bit of a problem for a while, but since the last overhaul, they seem to have disappeared. I put it down to utilizing the corner spaces of my room a bit more effectively...there must be some funky diffusion or something going on.

I also just got a nice set of KRK cans which I've been using to reference, and mixing on either those, or my monitoring setup, results in a nicely balanced mix either way. The only thing holding me back now is my actual technical ability hahaha!

I'll probably be buying some smaller drivers at some point as well...I think 8 inch drivers might be a bit too big for this room.

I will be designing and building a proper studio space when we build a house, and will fully incorporate acoustic treatment into the design :)

Boring doesn't make your music better and it only helps to waste more of your breath, time and money.

Not every musician has enough money to buy a grand piano or violin while I can get the library sample with half the price of those.

I agree with you 100%, it ridiculous how much instruments cost, but you can get an okay guitar, keyboard and/or a hand drum for an affordable price, it doesn't hurt to have at least one instrument. Being able to play something in real time can help with composing rhythms and melodies. And lastly you don't need tons of expensive toys to be a great musician

HUGE upgrades to the studio. Will take pictures as soon as I can figure out how to organize it. My "Executive" desk sucks for this because I can't even fit half this stuff on it. Damn single tier desks. I might have to crudely fashion a really tall second tier for it. Either that or buy a new desk.

I recently got this badass Seagull Entourage Rustic, acoustic-electric. It's been my primary guitar ever since I got it, it's just amazing. The build and finish is like that of a $1000+ guitar, and I think I might marry it.

I don't have a pic on hand, it's out in my car, so here's a pic of the same model from the web:

it's pretty nice, Has a lot of synth stuff to choose from, but strings and classical stuff don't sound all too real, but for a few exceptions( it has a very nice chamber string preset :D ). It also has nice piano sounds, but you might need to adjust sensitivity a lot.
The keyboard also has a USB compatibility with an extra program that allows better live performances and a library for synths you can make or import/export.

All in all, it's an okay keyboard, could use a few improvements here and there, but its pretty good. And it's also pretty light :P

PS I love the knobs in the right hand corner, its good for quick edits on the current preset :P

Yay new things:

Komplete 8 + HB & HS

New sub - SBX10 to go with the BX5A monitors
New computer (its shiny. yay) - 2tb 7200rpm hdd, i7 2600k(3.8ghz quad core), 16gb ddr3 ram...ballin
Receptor 2+ Pro barely visible in the middle under the crappy MIDI keyboard which I am selling to replace with a fully weighted 88key.
PreSonus Tubepre preamp. (so many "pre"s in that)

Have a lot of recording gear coming in soon too. Will take pix when I can

TBH just about every demo for every product of theirs blows me away. I would never have invested so much into EW if it wasn't for those demos.

Since I had a camera and felt like showing off, here is my current collection of fretted instruments

1. Gibson Les Paul Standard Honeyburst from 2008, first guitar I got to own, cheapest USA-made Gibson at the time due to the matte finish. Sounds like this
2. Yamaha SLG 100 N, has a particular nylon sound and I use it as a travel/late night inspiration guitar. Sounds like this
3. Simon&Patrick acoustic guitar, has a huge bright acoustic sound. Sounds a bit like this except good
4. 5 string Fender Jazz bass, traded it for a similar Precision bass. Very versatile bass but it can sound like this
5. Crappy uke with a piezo pickup on it. Only one I don't use regularly
6. Fender Deluxe HSS stratocaster, most versatile guitar yet, sounds like this and this
7. Highway One Telecaster, bought it used and it arrived today, gonna play a lot with it

Ah man nobody ever answered your question. It's not necessary if you have bigger monitors but it always helps because its going to more accurately define your lower end if its set up right. However, if you are mixing in 5.1 or more then you definitely need a sub.

Ok so new gear this week so far:

Two new stands : A boom and a Century Stand(C-stand: pricey little fuckers)
New pair of Rode NT5's : Cardioid pencil mics that I fell in love with.
A nice case for the pair
A Sound Devices 302 Field Mixer : Can you say best pre-amps ever?
And an ENG bag so I can actually use all my portable recording gear instead of attempting to hold twenty things at once.

Next week I get more new gear so more new pics then. wewt.
