I used to keep my snare at the same level as the floor tom, too. Over the past year or so I've gotten more reliant off of rim shots though, which meant I needed the snare tilted more (I hit it along the edges for rim shots) and I needed it at a more comfortable level (so I could, say, just put my left arm on my knee and be able to do a successful rim shot). So my snare sits a few inches above my floor tom now; it makes a hell of a lot of a difference, actually.
My cymbals though; are all different heights. They're set up so I can basically put my wrist in the middle and swing my hand around, successfully hitting each cymbal and getting a nice sound out of it :)
