NG Awards and Stuff

I mailed out the Newgrounds awards for March this afternoon, yay!

In other news... Anyone who has been on the site for years will know that once in a while, I post something on the front page asking about commercial real estate in the Philadelphia area. It's time to shit or get off the pot; I've made a bid on a building nearby! Please cross your fingers and hope my offer is accepted, because finally having a Newgrounds office would be really cool. July 6th is the ten year anniversary of NG.

For TEN YEARS, the NG office has always been in a basement, spare room, or even in the corner of my living room. Currently, I'm in the basement. It's a nice basement, but no one wants to hang out down here and the cats won't stay off the keyboard.

Getting an office will be a real coming-of-age moment for Newgrounds. I might actually be able to get some sort of a team to come to work every day, who knows. I'm trying not to get my hopes up; chances are it will just be a big empty room with me on a computer, ala that movie Simone with Al Pacino. I'm really hoping I'll have a team, though. It's just so hard to get people to come work in your basement. No one takes you seriously.

I don't want to jinx anything by giving away too many details. The place will need a lot of work if I get it. If my offer is accepted, I'll post pictures of the building and everyone can start to get excited about what we'll do with it. Ok, I probably shouldn't talk about it like it's OURS, it will really be MINE, ALL MINE! But I hope we can all share in the excitement of Newgrounds having an office. KEEP THOSE FINGERS CROSSED!

My father used to own a little office building with a couple of guys. It was a little small, but very nice to have and it made for a much better environment to work at.

Sadly their business idea went down the shitter, but hey, at least they had that office ;)

wow, that sounds really really cool; that would be wicked if Newgrounds had an office and all that jazz- oh the possibilites. esp. if there were a team there to help- newgrounds would be more like a incredibly awesome professional site instead of an incredibly awesome......not professionl (?) site. either way, it is bitching and i hope it alls goes well for you, Tom!

Man, I really feel your excitement =D. Best of luck getting the building. I find it hard to believe that you couldn't find people willing to come and work in your cat- and porn-ridden basement though.

I was going to suggest water-pistols to keep your cats off the keyboards, but on second thoughts that probably wouldn't be wise.

That's wicked cool. There's nothing like having a legit place to call your office. Can't the city help you, since it might be a first time purchase for you.

I can't believe it, what's next? A water cooler, a fax machine, post-it notes? It's amazing.

Last resort would be to hide in the place and scare potential buyers away. I'll get the sheets.
