If you find any software that is not on the list, please post the name and a short description of the software, and a link to the homepage.
If you would like to express an opinion on a particular piece of software, please feel free to post.

========================

Prices are included (where available) for general reference, but may not be correct by the time you read this.
Please note that the text is simply copied from the home page of each software, I simply don't have the time or money to download and try these programs.

Sound Converters - Programs that allow the conversion of sound files from one format (eg wav) to another (eg mp3). Most of the programs in this thread are capable of outputting various different formats, so if you have a decent sound editor installed, you probably won't need these programs.

Here's a useful free way to get Winamp to convert midi to wav!

http://users.lmi.net/bblackie/music/winamp/midi2wav.html

It's required that you use an old version, so you can go find it at www.oldversion.com

Well, it doesn't have to be an old version, because I have the newest winamp, and it works exactly the same.

Anyone know of anything that simply changes the Kbps of an MP3?

I'd be the first to admit that that would be very useful - sadly I think it kinda stamps it onto the file permanently - Im not sure you could lets say - up a 64kbit to a 132 k bit file... I've tried - no success..

I'm such an audio FAG! Actually, I'm THE audio fag!
ALSO! My sig isnt there just for show - click it! CLICK IT! NAOWWW!!!

From a quick Google, it looks like dbPowerAmp also has that capability. I think maybe I should download that program, it seems to come pretty highly recommended for conversion.

Just like a bitmap man - you can always decrease the quality but you can never really increase the quality of an MP3 - it would still technically be a 64kbps file but with each byte duplicated - so you'd effectively just be padding the file size without and benefit...

You can stream it to Wav, then find a converter.

You should also include CDex which can convert WAV>MP3 or MP3>WAV using any bitrate formula. It also allows easy CD-ripping.

actually, if anyone does know of an mp3-midi or wav-midi converter

that would be awesome sauce.
(Assuming such a thing exists)

Because it would make remixing like 10 times easier.. if not more
