You can keep them both, but if you want to change or a setting, add new VST(s) or sample(s), etc., you'll have to do it separately for both versions. Just remember to make a new, separate folder for FL8. ;)

I'm trying to record via a logitech usb microphone using ASIO but whenever I switch to ASIO, my sound goes out and I cannot hear any kind of feedback from the program at all. It only happens in FL because I can hear and watch youtube videos just fine.

I'm able to record when in ASIO mode, but I have to switch back to Primary Sound Device every time I want to play it back. The "in" section lists my microphone for the input, but the "out" section says "Not Connected 1 - Not Connected 2 when I'm in ASIO mode. I'm using an hp laptop if that's any help.

Is there any way to fix this?

I have experienced the same issue at times. I am using a HP laptop too, and running vista, but the problem lies in other programs (other than fl studio), such as windows media player, audacity, ect. My solution is to close other programs first, or to set up all the programs you want to run to run on AISO 4 all.

You mean that sometimes you want to play 2 notes at the same time? I would suggest you use the Piano Roll instead of the step sequencer. On the piano roll you choose which note to play, and also you can stretch the note to play for as long as you want.

Probably been asked before, but...

Can anyone point me to a decent tutorial or some sort of help resource for using Sytrus. I don't want something that explains the whole process, as I believe in figuring out what sounds good for myself, but rather I'm looking for a simple explanation of what all the sliders/matrix do per se.

I can't think of anything that quickly explains Sytrus, because it can be quite the powerful and complicated synth. But this tutorial by Blackhole12 is really worth a look through if you're interested in how it works.

I've found the best way is self taught. If your willing to put the time in, choose a preset from Sytrus and then open anotherSytrus and choose default. Keep playing a note and copy the settings from the preset to default one by one and you will hear the gradual changes

K, so I've got a little problem.

I tried importing a .wav in FL Studio 7, it asks me a directory to store the .wav, so I stored it under ''sliced beats''. The problem is, it still says the file is missing, and the directory is still empty.

How can I import a .wav properly?

If you want to just import a .wav file, you can drag and drop the wav file from Windows Explorer into your playlist. Or you can go to "Channels > Add one > Sampler", then click on the sampler box and click on the folder under the "SMP, INS, MISC" ect tabs and select your wav file. From there you can use the piano roll or the "simple sequencer" thing with the boxes that light up when you click them, or drag the sample by dragging the waveform of the sample onto the playlist.

Also, if you're wanting to slice up something like a drum sample, you can go to "Channels > Add one > Fruity Slicer", then click on the Fruity Slicer and open the sample you want to cut up by clicking the folder with the "+" signs / stars or whatever is on the folder (it's the second from the left).

a bunch of helpfull stuff

Thanks man :) well I tried doing it manually by just copy-pasting it in my FL-folder, which worked too, but your method is even better.

1) Click the Playlist button (or press F5)
2) Add loops on the appropriate layer by left-clicking

What program is that?

Is their anyone way i can record diffrent parts of a track and put them together to make a full track using FL 8.

Sometimes you have to burn everything down , so you can have nothing at all.

Do you mean taking two tracks, slicing them up, and then rearranging them in the FL sequencer into a song made from two songs?

I mean like recording the drum part then the bass part then the guitar part and then the vocal part and then layering them together into one whole track

yeah, you can set all the tracks as 'children' and put them into a layer. You might have to find a tutorial for that. or import all the tracks into FL, and export into 1 track.

Just make some random tracks, mess around with the plugins, get to know what each knob does. If you know the function of each button, plugin, w/e, you can make tracks easier.
Some tutorials might help too, there are lots at Youtube or the FL site.

After that, it's just practice, practice, practice. You'll get better in no time.

VSTs and plugins. I've been to VIPzone for some samples but I don't know what folder to put 'em in. I've put them in the VST folder but nothing shows up. I'm not sure if it's the files I guess, but FL dosn't seem to 'notice' them so to speak. Help?

Put them in any folder, liek 'My Documents/Samples/' or something and go to Options > File Settings and click one of the folder buttons on the right and find the folder you put them in. Then the folder will show up in the browser on the left and you can drag them into your project etc...

When I open Fruity Loops I get the error "Couldn't create the DirectSound main object"
This has only happened after I reinstalled my Windows XP.

I don't have any sound coming out my laptop at all, either.

Any help or links or whatever are appreciated.

Get vista. Or try googling that same error message in " "s.

They usually come to a forum with that same problem.

Sorry for the double post but there are a couple things you could check.

First, right click on the FL desktop item and check it's compatibility through the properties, make sure its on windows xp.

Then make sure all the FL files are in the corresponding FL folders... I'm not sure how exactly to check that, but from a little research I did some people were having the same problem until they moved some files around.

I'll keep looking, until then just do those 2 things if you can.

Hmm. Go thru control panel and go to audio settings. Check and make sure your using primary sound driver. And make sure that and FL your using the same thing. Or try the ASIO card but I wouldn't recommend that.

Does somebody know of any good tutorials or guides to what all of the plugin knobs/switches do? I know that that's how you can really customize your instruments, but i have no idea what each one does! Any help would be appreciated.

Is there anyway to set my midi controller (Axiom 25) as midi channel two, and have my computer keyboard set to "typing keyboard to piano keyboard" to use as midi channel 1, and control patterns with it in live mode, but use my axiom for playing sounds?
