The Dance in the Emerald Forest.
"The trees in the Wandering Woods are open-hearted, they are wide, they console, they are fat and golden and in the autumn they coat the cold earth with their largesse. They are the kindest of trees. The trees of Ex are tall, they fill one with awe, but the trees of the Wandering Wood are broad, they fill one with happiness.
Under the trees in the heart of the Woods, the moss is thick and delicately detailed: there are a thousand tiny featherings and branches in one strand, so minute that they are almost transparent, save for a gold-green blush along their thickest parts.
Try to walk on this moss: you cannot. The moss is too springy, it turns every step into a leap, a hop, and soon you are not walking but bounding, thrust forward through the silent honey-coloured air. You are thrilled and frightened. This is solemn fun, but you have just realised that you do not know where you are going."

A Yulebum - A long, slender instrument carved from the branches of a Mud-bum Willow, a yulebum is named after the wood it is carved from. Eight holes are carved into the top and the mouthpiece is carved in the shape of an ‘U’ at one end. It sounds like an Earth flute.
A Wingfly - A long flat instrument carved from the trees in the Forest of Ex, a wingfly was discovered by mistake. Bernard Sturmingham inadvertently struck two strands of ‘hair’ (an Umbagollah grass) together when he was harvesting it in the field and was shocked when a note sounded. It was an ‘E’ to be exact. Afterwards, he mounted different lengths of hair on a piece of wood carved to look like a triangle with a long neck. He also made what he calls the wingfly striker. This is made by attaching a piece of hair to the stem of a Mud-bum Willow. To play a wingfly, a person ought to take the wingfly striker and slide it back and forth across the wingfly. A wingfly sounds much like an Earth violin.
A Homble - A drum-like instrument carved from the trees in the Forest of Ex, a homble is a light, small drum. A hollow barrel is carved from a slim tree and the hide of a beastie covers each hollow end. Since it is a light drum, a person can walk around with it and play it by hitting the hide with the palms of his or her hands. A homble sounds like an Earth tom-tom.
A Bostor - Another drum-like instrument carved from the fat, hollow trees of the Wandering Woods, a bostor is a large, heavy drum. Like the homble, a hollow barrel is carved from a fat tree and the hide of a beastie covers each hollow end. Since it is a large drum, it sits stationary and a person plays it with his or her fists. A bostor sounds like an Earth bass drum.
Be careful, O traveler! Hear that music…the revelry…do not be fooled by the enchanting music that cries out from the Wandering Woods! Do not draw near and be caught up in the merry dance! You will not see another sunrise if you continue your trek deeper into the Wandering Woods. The Thug Ming Li’s fleet of pirates play the song you hear. They celebrate tonight. They must have stolen a large bounty from a merchant. If you wish not to suffer the same fate as that foolish merchant, then turn back now before it is too late!
