http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/222150 (aka 3 3ast 3 3urious) was submitted at 5 PM on February 28th, but it didn't qualify for the Best of February voting a month ago.The date that's taken into consideration in the selection criteria isn't the date that the entry is uploaded. It's the date that the entry got either the front page feature or won an award.
It won a daily award for MARCH 1ST, because that's how things on NG work: any daily award you win has the FOLLOWING date on it (or even two days later if you submit at like 11:30 PM).
As a result, the monthly contest is really a "last day of the month-before-last to the NEXT-to-last day of last month" span thingie. If that makes any sense at all. Which it should, if you paid attention to my 3333 example. #;-}>
Ahhhh, so I pegged the "day it won the daily award," but forgot to mention the "front page" aspect. I wasn't sure that the front page would supercede the award. It's whichever comes first, basically, eh?
So, the selection date/time for last month is:
03/01/05 00:00:00 through 03/31/05 23:59:59 based on the award date/time and/or front page date/time. So what you're saying is mostly right, with the exception of entries that get on the front page on the same date that they were uploaded - two comparisons, given that scenario:
Entry A is uploaded on 28th February and gets the front page on 1st March - entry is eligible for March awards, rather than February.
Entry B is uploaded on 28th February and gets the front page on 28th February - entry is eligible for February awards, rather than March.
Right. And Entry A probably got a daily award on 1st March as well, so the two events coincided, no big deal. But if Entry B won a daily award on 1st March, the 28th February frontpaging takes precedence.
BTW, the whole "03/01/05 00:00:00 through 03/31/05 23:59:59" range for awards means that the SUBMISSIONS range is what, something like 02/27/05 23:00:00 through 03/30/05 23:00:00 (or whatever the actual time is if it's not 23:00:00, that the cutoff for that day's portal awards happens at).
IOW, a movie submitted at 23:30 on 2/27/05, even if it got protected before 2/28 started, wouldn't be getting the daily award for 2/28, it would get it on 3/1, and would thus be eligible for the MARCH awards instead of the February ones.
That was something I didn't spell out before, but it bears mentioning, methinks. Thanks for the clarificationing, liljim.
