Yet again Im asking the NG Community for help with computers. I need a computer to suit my new mouse and mouse pad linkage for my mouse . Im going to start saving money and I wanted to know whats the BEST computer for the lowest price, Im willing to spend money, but I just dont want to buy a 400$ computer and a 1000$ monitore like some computer companys do. So please post some links to the best computers for the best price. I know about alien computers but I heard I can get their same parts but cheaper, and if so whats that computer. I want the computer to be so good that I can get at least 200 FPS for AA.

Well first, tell me your price range. Without a price range, I can't even begin to figure out what you need.

P.S., building a computer is always better than buying one, so I'll be listing the parts you'll need to get.

I'm good with computers, but Im not that good. If I build a computer I really think I'll leave out very vitale parts...

No worries, I'll be sure to list everything in detail. I have a knack for these things. In fact, I and a friend recently started up a business building customs computers for people... I have more than a little experience. :)

Now, again. How much do you have to spend?

Well for a good gaming computer its best to custom build it, if you want to save money(but if you don't care about money Alien Ware's are the probably the best choice buy you'll spend a few Grand for one). So you need mother board, RAM, ROM, Graphics, sound, and ports(like USB FireWire), power supply, case, processor(Pentium 4 w/HT best) and finally cooling off agents for your hardware. Doing this is harder to do but costs less. A good gaming computer would consist of....

3,0GhZ or better processor
at least 1GB RAM
At least 128MB Graphics(256 for best performance)
Sound Blaster Auidigy 6.1 surround sound card
also about 80GB for the hardrive woluld be nice

I looked it over, and it kinda sucks. Its just a good looking cover, and some half assed parts you could get for half the price anywhere else. I would recommend an amd 64 processor, 2.5 ghz is enough for everything. get at least 1.5 gb dual port ram-memory, and a asskicking graphicscard, and youre ready to hit the streets.

Dell XPS is shit compared to some serious gaming comps out there.
That is just what all the noobs buy since the commercials exploit dell so well.

Good gaming rigs:
cyberpower gamer ultra sli pro (desktop)
alienware area-51m 7700 (notebook)

and the ultimate video card on the market today is the geforce 6800 ultra oc pci express [256mb gddr3 ram gpu] And you can double it up with a nvdia -sli configured setup to get double the power. This can cost up to $ 1,180 though. But if you want the best, this is the best you can get. The best is always expensive mind you, and video cards are the most important thing for running a game smoothly and for the game to look its best.

Whats more important (more FPS) a video card or more RAM? Or whats the most important part. I have a Dell 4300, so I might start replacing its parts- would that be a good idea?

VC, for more fps. But your RAM matters a lot too, as it enables more space (memory) for running programs.

If you're going for good FPS, i suggest a good prossesor, without a good one, your graphics card is shit.

alienware is just fucking overprised. your paying mostly for the case. My case cost fifty bucks, and looks like shit. But whats inside is what kicks my ass

256 graphics card
1 gig ram
64 bit athlon
5.1 stero system
1 wireless card connected to rode runner
1 video input card (i cant think of the right word to call it)
60 gig hard drive (which was a mistake, should have opted for the 120)

A computer like this wont let you down. If you can, build it yourself. Its surprisingly ease (as long as you follow instructions and GROUND YOURSELF) and cheaper.

Go with an athlon processor. It has a higher clock speed then a pentium (which is good).

Things to look for...
If you are going for the newest generation of processors, make sure to go AMD. The newest pentiums run so hot you'll probably wind up with a very loud cooling solution.

When it comes to graphics cards, there is no practical difference between AGP and PCI express currently so don't be fooled. I'd recomend going for a radian X700 or a GeForce 6600, they will give you all the bang of their bigger brothers at half the cost.

As for RAM, 512mb is the bare minimum going up to 1Gb. However, don't sacrifice quality and speed for size, you'll only regret it later.

When working on a budget, stay the hell away from anything flat. Even the best ones don't have the same kind of quality and versatility of your everyday CRT. Especially since you are looking for a gaming rig, it would be a big mistake.

As for the motherboard, look for something name brand. This is usually something that most people look over in getting a new PC. If the brand is ASUS, MSI, AOPEN or Gigabyte, all the better.

Most of all don't be afraid to run a google search on something you arn't sure about or don't quite understand. If that doesn't work, websites like www.newegg.com and www.tomshardware.com can really help you understand what the different names and specs actually mean.
