What do this game cart. have against me? I just want one shiny pokemon, not a crappy encounter but a shiny in my roster, is that too much to ask for?

I was like that for years. It wasn't until Pearl version that I saw my first Shiny pokemon... and eventually I saw 5 or 6 in total. Go figure.

There are two ways to approach this.

1. Life goes on. Don't feel bad. Most people don't even own a shiny, and many don't even know what a shiny is (this one really applies to the kiddies, but you know what I mean).

2. Hunt for shinies. there are two ways to dramatically increase your odds of finding one:
Masuda method, a way of increasing your odds of finding a shiny through breeding, and the Poke radar (scroll down a bit), an item for chaining wild Pokemon in tall grass. The actual odds of finding one during longer chains (40+) are still unknown, but it has been proven to be MUCH more likely that you'll encounter a shiny, and there have been reports of people finding several shinies in a row during chains.

The choice is yours.

In all my life, with probably ~100 hours per generation, I've never seen (or at least, seen to my knowledge) a shiny.

Lol... this makes me look really bad, I think I easily had 300 -400 hours on Gold, about the same on Emerald, and I've got near 600 on Pearl.

Still hadn't seen a shiny prior to Pearl, which show hours mean squat.

It doesn't make me feel any better, since that time I start killing every Lairon I encounter in the Victory Road.

I generally didn't hate that pokemon, even have Aggron in my roster but still have trouble getting over it.

I'm going to try to find one at Mt. Pyre

I wouldn't count those, they're given to you on a silver platter.

Idiot-Finder have you ever thought of going to a Pokemon trading forum or even serebii and asking for a shiny Lairon? Just a thought. Also, in some idiotic my cousin got an adamant Elekid with Ice Punch online (...). I told him 'that's a good find' and his response was 'yeah but I have to breed it', the logic?
So it didn't have the original trainer's name but his own. I felt like hitting him.

What are these chemicals in my head, that tell me I should be dead?

I've been playing a through a level on Pokemon FireRed. Besides the annoying and unnecessary help menus, it's a decent remake. I just caught a shiny Pidgey, holy fuuck. I only have a Blastoise in my party besides an HM slave Meowth who picks up Nuggets and Rare Candies so far, and I'm on my way to Celadon City to battle Team Rocket for the Silph Scope.

Do you trade over the internet or set up a meeting to trade in person?

Also there are some idiots on youtube who thinks a red gyarados on second generation games are hacked because they didn't think it'll be given to you that easily.

Haha, oh wow. Technically it's not even a shiny, it's part of the story. What a riot.

It tells you how much they have been missing, won't be surprised if some of the recent pokemon fans have no idea who Mewtwo and the legendary birds are.

"What's a missingno?"

Okay the missingno. one is unfair but seriously...

I also wonder if they know Jynx was black...

Yeah, I didn't count it because everyone gets it anyway. I was meaning 'real' shinies, as in ones you see in the wild. i.e. NOT Red Gyarados.

At 10/22/09 10:59 PM, Idiot-Finder wrote: Do you trade over the internet or set up a meeting to trade in person?

There's a wifi chatroom on serebii.net, that you can use to trade over the internet. People regularly trade shinies, so I'd check it out if you want one.

This is why people associate Pokemon as a kid's game. It's really not. The difficulty on the first version was hard as tits, but they really are the best games, and you have to love the series after playing through Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow. Best Pokemon, best places, best battles.

On the topic of shinies, I've caught a purple Zubat on Gold Version and raised it into a Crowbat, it was so cash. I also recieved a Golden Togepi on another file on Gold. That must be really rare.

Regarding the Mew glitch on yellow. I never tried it because I couldn't bear to delete my old file to do that.

I remember meeting up with friends in the 3rd grade on the cool kid swings by a tree and we would always attempt the double Pokemon trade clone trick. I think we made it work once. The other times it fucked up our files. Good times.

My brother cloned his starting pokemon in Silver by accident, too bad that version didn't work anymore due to technical problems.

Lol, I did that thing a million times. So awesome to have a Mew in your party.... a million times better than a shitty Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam.

I was a cloning fiend in the G/S/C era as well. I cloned all my legendaries a heap of times, and would keep 'backups' on the Pokemon Stadium 2 box system. No doubt they're still there, so if I could find a working Gold/Silver/Crystal version, I could no doubt transfer them all back again ^_^

I used to do that all the time; my brother and I figured out that if the cloned Pokémon was holding an item, we could duplicate it and get more. Thus we cloned ourselves a bunch of Master Balls and had very little difficulty catching any rare Pokémon like Lugia.
On the other hand, it DID do some damage. My brother all but killed the CMOS battery in his Silver cartridge doing this trick.

I tried it so many times on Gold that it fried the saving system. The game erased my big ass file and I had to start over. It would say I saved but erase it anyways. Then the battery died and it wouldn't even work at all.

You trade over the internet, its very easy, straightforward and there's rarely ever a cough-up. Very business-like and a lot easier than the method you're using to try and get a shiny.

If it involves link cable then there's a problem, it's damaged beyond repair.

Do DS's have link cables? You just need wireless internet which if you live in a city is easier enough to find, though I don't know if you want to sit in a cafe with a stack of people while switching between the DS and computer. Or you could use a connector cable that usually sell for 50 bucks. Check the Wifi website.

I take it you're not playing Pearl, Platinum or Diamond. There's little you can do about that then - with the shinies that is.
