I had no clue about that.
I am a fairly oblivious person when it comes to little things like that.

No problemo. Lots of people who've been here for a loooong time and had ample opportunity to have found out how some things they end up being interested in work... they still often are ignorant about some stuff.

Most of the stuff that's been said about the unwhistle-ability of review mods for those few months was either on the review mod forum (not your fault for having not seen that stuff, obviously!) or perhaps in the "abusive reviews" topic on Where is/How to?, which I suppose you might not be an avid reader of. No biggie, again.

[I just recognized the 'characters remaining' feature yesterday . ]
was it in a front page post? Non of you guys ever brought it up again to the admins?

I don't believe it ever was, no. But little features, such as that one... or the new 4 decimal digits thanks for voting score display, as another example... aren't really worth making front page posts (or any topics about, really).

Obviously it's just a matter of time and work before review mods can do different things and before a portal mod system is set up as well, blackpowerranger.
I was in that thread, but ,sadly, didn't get to read through it all.
I am glad the crew is thinking of implamenting such features -
I think it will really improve the portal system.

thank you for the informative response, gfoxcook. :)

You're quite welcome. Thanks for showing an interest, it's okay that you can't read through everything. That's what I'm here for: to summarise. #;-}>

But who knows, lets just give liljim all the time he needs for his current work you know. I'm sure by summertime portal mods shall be afoot.

(cough)... ramagi and Denvish vote on more stuff than me in the portal, yes... but why on earth did Joe get a mention before *I* did, eh? I'm about to hit 53,000 b/p and I'm second only to ramagi in "total time spent voting on UJ movies in the portal," quite obviously. #;-}>

Meanwhile, Joe, as he will tell you, hasn't been voting on much more than the 5 movies for his experience per day... since April 2004, almost a year ago. He's cut way down on his portal usage AND his review modding, he's just not into those areas of NG much anymore. Just posting and exp, it seems.

At 3/10/05 04:36 AM, Back_Door_Baron wrote: I haven't been on this site that long (just over a year) and I have seen that there are far too many links to websites in reviews, many of them not at all related to one's own personal website.

Greg, you mentioned that they've been working on this for years, but it really doesn't seem to make any difference. Even submissions will still get their say before anyone sees anything wrong with it. While I applaud this effort to rid the portal of spam, I honestly think that it is futile, as people will always find a way to promote a site in who's promotion said people will get some benefit.

Of course it's futile if the effort is to COMPLETELY stop such things. But the goal really isn't that... it's to LOWER the amount of such shit to as little an amount as possible.

And some things, such as the "banned people's reviews don't show up to anyone but mods/admins unless it's the most recent review on a movie" policy.... and the "you can't review faster than 1 review per 3.5 minutes" policy... are making a positive difference. That's all we can do: find small changes to enact and hope they work, yanno?

Anyway, at first I thought you were Baron Von Bad Guy with a new username for some reason (because you have Baron in your name and called me Greg). If you've only been on the site for a year, how on earth did you find out my name is Greg? #;-}>

At 3/10/05 04:44 AM, juraj wrote: BTW I've noticed that blammed flashes are still available on NG's fileserver (uploads.ungrounded.net). What does that mean? NG keeps blammed .swf files? You don't delete that crap?

Here's the proof.

This crap has been blammed
http://newgrounds.com/portal/rip.php?id=223964

And it's still available on NG's fileserver
http://uploads.ungrounded.net/...1&uj=1&w=550&h=400

WTF!?

~juraj

This is well known to most hardcore NG-informed regulars, man. What's the big deal?

NG has practically infinite hard drive space, it's the least of their problems (bandwidth and database server strain are much higher up on the list). There's nothing wrong with hanging on to blammed flashes just in case... at least for a certain amount of time. No one can access them unless they snagged the SRC URL before the flash was blammed, as you figured out how to do. Good job with that, BTW, but you ain't the first to think of it. #;-}>

Yeah, they prowl it like nobodys buisness, especially Denvish, he's gotten tons of stars and broken a few records.

XD HAHA! ...um......cause you special. :D But yeah, I'm sorry, you kind slipped my mind since you've been gone for quite a bit. :P They better make you a portal mod when it comes down to it.

Meanwhile, Joe, .... Just posting and exp, it seems.

Yeah. :/ He needs to hit that 20k save mark someday.

Site visits would increase because hackers would want more noob IP's to hack. Heh. That would kick.

You know, I really like his solution. Promise to share the IP if they keep on spamming, and then let the script kiddie wannabe hackers sort them out afterwards. Sounds like a fair deal where everyone but the spammer goes home happy.

Yeah I say keep him banned.

I was pissed off of what he was trying to do.
He said he got 10cents for every person wo he refered to cyber-wars. Also what he did was put a normal name when it was in judgement then when it was out he would change it to a retarded name like "OMG HENTAI STORNERZ VOTE 0 0 0" so people would vote 0 just looking at the name hoping to get turd of the week, thank god he's failed getting it everytime. But if he did get Turd Of The Week look at all the people who would view his animation and goto cyber-wars while (if it's true) he gets 10 cents per person that goes there.

Just my 2 cents on the situation.

Ugh, getting paid for getting loaded up with adware? I think he needs to be kicked permanently off more than just the portal, try the planet as well.

Yeah, Miles11, I just clicked on the link for that SWF file and watched it. Guess what it was? A fucking half-second screen that said, "goto Freewebs.com/pat-whatever"
Yup. Definitely spam. Screw spam. All it does is...
1. Increase our blam point ranks.
2. Wastes NG bandwidth.
3. Get the person who sent it into a shitload of trouble.
God damn spam.

God damn spam.

I went to that shitty freewebs site myself, and it was complete shit, I mean, chin wagging? WTF?!

This fucking idiot should be deleted according to Wade's rules.

However.

1. Thankfully as this was flagged, no blam points were given out.
2. Hardly waste any bandwidth, only 5kb big.
3. Get that idiot in a shit load of trouble.

Things work out good in the end, I want to see this awful portal spam to stop.

i agree, some arent that bad but still get around 1.5, which is not that great but they still deserve a place on the portal. raise the threshhold and newbies might start giving up, and serious potential could be missed
