I dont know about any of you, but I would like a stable economy when its time for me to retire. When Im olf and not able to work I want teh comfort of Social Security. Bush's suggestion, whichI personally think wont fix a thing, doesnt seem totally fair to all people with different wages. Dont people with lower wages deserve to have a comfortable retirement, and not have to save so much of thier money while working that they have to live in poverty? i really dont have an answer to this, and maybe niether do you, but I do want to know what you think.

Right now social security is only taken out of the first $90,000/yr you make. There are many who say that by increasing the amount that's taxed, say, to the first $125,000/yr, social security would be able to pay out 100% of benefits into the foreseeable future.

Plunge the government into massive deficit spending and hope that the economic ramfications don't hit until after we're dead.

That's what will be done, anyway.

So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...

Eh, too bad that's what they're doing now, so the ramifications are coming if we don't do anything.

The way to fix social security? Stop the government from taking from the social security surplus we currently have (yes we do have a SS surplus). Use the money that comes from social security solely for social security and not other government programs. Also, a good portion of this money should be given back out to banks to be used as loans to consumers and businesses, and paid back with interest of course. So this means that the money does not sit idly in the Treasury, and is instead promoting the growth of the American economy.

This seems rational to me, it solves the problem of the pyramidal scheme that people complain about the current system(the pay as you go), and it does not privatize social security, which the democrats are furiously against.

I saw an interesting Idea in a study at one point. The idea was to give social security to people when they're born, something like 2000 a year until they're 18. Now this money collects interest and can't be touched until the person reaches retirement age. While the person is alive they can volontaraly give money into their account, however this would be in addition to the money that they already take out of you pay check which would go to you're fund. If someone dies before they reach retirement the money is put back into the government pot or part could be put into the wife/families fund. The study said when the average person retires they'd have a few million to live off of (if they contribute and accounting for interest and such), though a few million might not be much do to inflation. This would also be a PAIN to establish cuz what do you do witht the people who have already been born and don't have these funds setup. Anyway theres an idea to fix it, will enver happen though.

Put more debt on your childrens backs. And look for more ways to screw them over, yes I know we already sufficiently screw them over by underfunding the educational system, but I wanna REALLY screw them over.

Is there any way we can bring back child labor, but make it so all the money goes directly to the parents?

What about some way to systematically scar them emotionally for their entire life. Like a war or something.
