This is not exactly true. The Governors-General still hold one important purpose: to uphold Canada's constitution in Parliament. So, say if Paul Martin lost a pretty sure-fire confidence vote but just pulled a "up-yours" I'm staying in and I don't care what you say! The GG has the legal right to enforce a new election in parliament, so long as the decision to do so has a constitutional basis. This has actually been done before (I think to King) but, in that case, the GG was actually wrong to make the call. There are also technical examples for parliamentary government. For instance -- if there is a minority government and the two opposing parties successfully form a coalition, the GG gets to decide whether or not the coalition is legit (and therefore, can take government away from the party with the most seats).

With respect to the Queen on Canada's money -- some Monarchists say that it is a good thing to have our representative head come from outside. There's no real expense to having the Queen on our bills (and probably more expensive to remove her!) and at least Canadians don't really get mud on their face when the Queen does something stupid. We just say "Stupid Queen" and go on with our lives. Americans get all kinds of mud all over them with Bush (whether they support him or not) and got all kinds when Clinton had his. . . er. . . escapade, because their representative head (The Prez) is a full-blooded American.

Some things seem technically stupid, but work for some reason. Consider the Queen the "Numa Numa Dance" of Canadian Politics.

That's a Media Matters video. I guess they want to censor people who like to make fun of Canada.

The United States is a manly country. We make fun of countries that don't agree with us or think we are weird. I'm pretty sure most other countries do that too. The only real difference is that the rest of the world actually hates us, while I don't think most people in this country hate Canada or Europe (except France). Don't take it personally.

To answer your question, first of all, Fox is a partisan news source that does a lot of talking about the issues. Coulter speaks in hyperboles and mean-spirited zingers. That's why she gets air-time. CNN is not partisan but they do offer some different viewpoints. Also, that guy was really funny.

Now according to Media Matters, networks should not be allowed to have critics of Canada, or any other country but the US on their shows. To them, this segment is obviously illustrating the corporate power over the media and other bullshit.

The funny thing about all this, is that they couldn't even establish legitimacy in their own borders. The Canadians, Irish, British, and every other freakin' immigrant (meaning the people who mostly have the brains in the country) would start a revolt. What if India and Pakistan start fighting? Then China joins in with Pakistan, NK attacks China, Japan attacks NK, Russian bases with thousands of nukes are left completely undefended because Russia's economy imploded. Then what, thats the day that your going to wish you had some sort of military.
