Ok, so this is a pretty negative looking topic...
But seriously, I have no problem with the US. I think that we both need each other to survive. Still, a lot of my friends hate the US people for voting for Bush. But, if they voted for Bush, that means that they trust him, and that's their choice.
And lately, I stumbled across this video that just shows why some canadians hate the US so much.
So, what's wrong with Fox News and CNN for actually letting this jackasses speak?

Ann Coulter is an accidental satire of conservativism. She is an absolute extreme to one end of the spectrum. I'm sure Canada has their own version.
We let jackasses speak their mind so that we can pinpoint who they are very quickly. The old adage works both ways. As long as we allow the fools to give themselves away, the world is a mite safer. At least we can see it coming.

I couldn't stop cracking up watching that video.
I have two (3) things to say:
#1) I don't know why Canadians don't like us, I think the typical American seldom thinks about it and doesn't care?
Yes, you are our #1 source of EXTERNAL energy, but are not indespensible, and yes we do purchase many commodities off of you but thats mainly because of their pricing due to geographical lo9cation and not due to low-supply on the world market.
#2) Isn't canade experiencing civil strife now?
My understanding of Canada is that the French and English speaking peoples are completely divided and that you are actually more of a confederation of provinces than a Union. So referring to 'Canada' at all is insufficient, we need to specify which part of canada thinks, feels, does, or does not do when we refer to 'Canada'
The US is divided as well, by party, but when you break it down into issues there is much less division.
#3)
So I'm from south florida, and I can give you Canadians a hint: South floridians hate snowbirds because they don't tip. In the U.S. there is a custom (when in ROME. . .) of leavving an additional 15% of the bill, excluding tax as a form of gratuity for service.
Obviously, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, Myrtle beach, and Miami mostly experience the richest faction of Canadians (those who can afford international vacations). And I think your impressions of the United states mostly come from the extremists (moderates never get air time on fox or any other news source.
Overall, I consider Canada a neighbor, and I automatically like my neighbor. I just don't understand why my neighbor abhorrs me.

You know, if Canada REALLY has a problem with the way the US is run, why don't they just invade?
Oh, yeah, that's right, because the US has an army, and Canada has a ....polar bear... or something. It's hard to take a country like that seriously. Hell, at least Australia is capable of surviving surrounded by culturally foreign nations. Canadians can't even get along with le Quebecois!
Seriously, though, the only thing Canada is famous for is the fact that it gets so cold all the sap freezes out of the trees. Ann Coulter had it right when she said every great Canadian moves to the US. Can you blame them?

We do have an army, we just don’t senselessly invade countries as for the polar bear comment, get an education about Canada you dumbfuck.
It’s not as cold as it used to be here!, yeah we have sap freeze out of trees, but that jsut makes us tougher doesn it?.
We can survive perfectly around culturally foreign nations and people, get an education on Canadian politics. the le Quebecois party is full of selfish self centered assholes who only give a shit about Quebec and not the rest of the country.
The great Canadians move to the U.S.? what makes you think that?, hell I wouldn’t mind living in Seattle or somewhere but the good Canadians also stay behind and love their own country instead of moving to another country.
A great Canadian doesn’t have to agree with you, a lot Americans are coming to canada because they don’t want to be attacked by terrorists. No other country except the states hates us, because nobody else hates us. Some Americans, along with Canadians are very childish, I know but higher your standards a little bit and don’t bash Canada, I don’t hate America I jus don’t agree with stuff that gob’s on there. Maybe your also so bitter because you tried invading us twice and we burnt your whitehouse down, hehe.

I guess this is one of the people Maus was referring to.
Anyways, there are so many stereotypes flying around, I don't know where to begin. Firstly, I'm a Canadian, and I want to make a note that I do not hate Americans... I just hate some of the actions of their government. That doesn't mean that I don't tolerate it either, because honestly, I don't want America to become "left-liberal", because that is something that makes Canada great... if every country in the world emulated us, then where would the wonders of diversity go that teach us about the world from different perspectives.
As for the stereotypes presented in this forum alone, and not from what was said on the video (I hope that those of you who agree with what some of the Americans were saying on there were placed on the video for a reason... because they are wrong possibly?).
"#1) I don't know why Canadians don't like us, I think the typical American seldom thinks about it and doesn't care?"
That's one reason right there why some Canadians are frustrated with Americans... you have to realize that you aren't the only ones inhabiting this Earth, there are other countries out there (believe it or not) and who want to share ideas and interests with your country... however, if this generalization is correct about most Americans (that was made by SpiceLord), this indicates that you have no interests in us (or other countries) and in essence, you separate yourselves from us.
"#2) Isn't canade experiencing civil strife now?"
That was a good 5-10 years ago... so at least you have some knowledge of our politics... kinda.... Yes, there was some separation going on between the French and English cultures in our country, but steps have taken to try and relieve these tensions. Basically, the French community was getting tired of being homogenized by the English culture, and wanted to preserve their own identity. As it stands, we are mending our relations and are continuing to promote diversity in our provinces/cultures.
"So I'm from south florida, and I can give you Canadians a hint: South floridians hate snowbirds because they don't tip."
Canadians don't tip? Who says? Did you not get tipped one time and overheard that they were Canadian? Hell, I tip 15% at the LEAST for certain services that are "known for tipping" (ie restaurants, barber shops, cabs, etc). I hate to break it to you, but yes, we have this custom of "tipping" as well.
"And I think your impressions of the United states mostly come from the extremists"
This one may actually make sense given that we are bombarded by American media (also gives reason behind why we know so much about America).
"I just don't understand why my neighbor abhorrs me."
I think that's the issue that we are raising, because you can argue that some Americans have the same feelings about Canada. Hell, we recognize that we need each other to survive the way we are living today. It's just that when we hear in your media people like Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson, we realize that this message is being spread across the nation and that some Americans who don't know much about Canada will begin to take on this stereotype.
"You know, if Canada REALLY has a problem with the way the US is run, why don't they just invade?"
Canada is a more peaceful nation, so we realize that invasion does not resolve any differences of opinion that we may have with one another. Perhaps this is a way of thinking that you could consider as well?
"Oh, yeah, that's right, because the US has an army, and Canada has a ....polar bear... or something."
You're right, we don't have a military as large as yours, because we have little need for one. In all reality, we use our army for peace-keeping or for natural disaster recovery moreso than for warfare. Luckily, we haven't pissed off to many countries, so our enemies are few in comparison. Why would we create a large army and beef up national defence if no one is threatening us? No, we prefer to spend our money on more progressive uses, like healthcare and education (what a novel idea!).
"Ann Coulter had it right when she said every great Canadian moves to the US. Can you blame them?"
That depends on how you define "greatness". Personally, I don't put my faith in rock/movie stars, I prefer to put my faith of greatness in the actions of our government and inventors. Media is good and all, but I think I would prefer to feel pride in the actions of my country, in the steps we take to progress academically and in through what we learn through our diversity.
Hey, I'm not saying that America is bad and Canada is good, I'm just trying to give a perspective behind why some Canadians are frustrated with our neighbours as of late. We also take an interest in your world politics as well, because we have seen how when America doesn't like a country because of it's beliefs, or because it has a resource that they want, that they just step out, attack their opponents, then take what they want. If we see you doing this to other countries, and begin to hear talk about "How we(Americans) should just roll over and crush them(Canadians)", you can understand why we might get a little defensive and begin to wonder where the American mentality sits these days... and as we have seen from a few, our fears are being validated to a degree.

It’s not as cold as it used to be here!, yeah we have sap freeze out of trees, but that jsut makes us tougher doesn it?.
I wouldn't call a bunch of loyalists who got chased into the coldest hellhole on the continent "tough." If canadians were so tough, they wouldn't have gotten shoved in the corner with the french now, would they?

Um... the only country Canada shares a border with is the US who speak the same language as you. Ie, not culturally different. Then you flame le Quebecois, who ARE culturally different, thus proving you wrong. LOL again.
The great Canadians move to the U.S.? what makes you think that?, hell I wouldn’t mind living in Seattle or somewhere but the good Canadians also stay behind and love their own country instead of moving to another country.
I don't know... Jim Carey, Alanis Morissette, etc, etc..... But you can keep that whiny french whore Celine Dione.

Actually, the US just likes to fuck with canada. Canada's kind of like the fat kid of the north american continent who everybody laughs at and makes fun of, and makes go play in the woods all by himself. And yeah, you burned our whitehouse down. Big whoop. Where's your whitehouse? That's right, YOU don't have one. The fucking polar bear ate it.

Tipping
This isn't an insult to your country, Im just offering a reason why so many south floridians do not like canadians. I have already stated I do (I lost my virginity to a snowbird).
I have never worked in the food service industry, but It is a general consensus among all south floridians that french canadian snowbirds do not tip. It may be an impression or it may be true. All of my friends who did work in the food service industry state that they do not get tipped by canadians n(the accent gives it away). Consequently, Canadian snowbirds do not seem to pay their parking tickets either.

Maybe South Floridian servers are rude. i worked in food service, and Canadians were not the group that was bitched about for lack of tipping. Canadians actually tip pretty well.
You did back up and specify French Canadian, and they seem to be a different breed.

Most Americans don't have anything against Canada. In my life I have never met anyone who honestly disliked Cananda or has had any reason to dislike Canada. I think that some people's problem is that they cant take it when some people from other countries disagree with thier actions or criticize them and they go on the offensive.

non-french canadians are indistinguishable from local floridians, so yes.
An interesting anecdote:
I was meeting the safeguard in Brunei about a year ago but it was late into port so I had some time to explore the region. I had some delicious beef stew at a stand and left a tip to the muslim girl who had served me before walking away. She chased me down across the marketplace and handed it back to me explaining that tips are not allowed, and that I was impinging upon her honour or something by leaving a money to an unmarried girl who did not earn it.
Just an example in tipping practices differing across cultures.

Exactly. Why people "hate" other countries are commonly for very illigocial and ideological reasons. I just cannot understand it.

Tips:
If you want me to give you an extra %15 of the bill for your service, your service better be worth it. It isn't mandatory to tip so don't feel like its money owed to you. You earn that shit.
And yes I worked in the food service industry for a few years, quality service brings rewards. Shit service gets just that.
And come on, we don't hate Amreicans, we just hate some of your politics. And the fact that you can't be bothered to learn something about your neighbor. Which is why we think alot, ok some of you are ignorant, and sheepish. I've met lots of Americans, hell I grew up some 8 years in Port Orange Fl. most of yall aren't so bad.

BC, did you make a living wage on top of tips, or did you live off of the tips? Here in the US, servers live off their tips, and are paid less than $2/hour.

Because someone called Canadians crappy tippers. Very much a cultural thing. The US is really weird in that we don't pay our servers a wage, really. Their check is usually voided, due to taxes being taken for both their $2.hr wage, and their tips. The only money they make is from tips.
Some people are under the impression that serving is always a lucrative job here, and it isn't. I served tables for a year or so, and barely made it by, making 20% tips on average.

Well, you should move to Canada then!
The minimum wage for waitresses is above 7.00$CAN and there's a 15% tip floor. But that's only a minimum. People tip much more usually if you're a good waitress. Hell, at my birthday, my cousin actually gave 200$ to the waitress! Ok, he was a bit drunk, but it shows that canadians, at least when they stay in Canada, are good tippers. One thing though, the tips are highly taxable, I don't know if the same applies to the US...

Are you crazy? Mandatory fifteen percent? When the hell did that become a 'custom'?
My girlfriend is a waitress, and has been for years. And I'm still a hardass about tipping.
Fuck mandatory tipping. Nothing is given. I come in, I sit down, and my server starts with a tip of 0%. Everything after that determines what kind of tip I leave.
Now, I'm not stingy. I've been known to leave tips very much better than 15%, for quality service. I just think if you're a server, and you do a mediocre job...you deserve a mediocre tip.
What's my point? Don't be pissed at Candadians for not tipping well - Be pissed at florida's servers for doing a half-assed job.

I dont think we hate american people. Some of us (yes this includes me) hate the US govt (but I hate the Canadian govt to) Canadians and Americans are the same when you get right down to it. If it werent for the fact that our govt systems are a little different we'd be pretty much one county.
As I comic I saw put it
"Canadians and Americans are practily identical
A canadian is basicly a unarmed american with health care"
