all this talk about alternative accounts, I mean, WHY do people have alternative accounts? is it even allowed? I don't think it should be...

I have an alt
so that I can have more than 50 favorite flashes on my list
first 50 on main
second 50 on Alt

Or does everyone have an equal say of the 2000 (well, 1800 or whatever)? And if that's the case, then how do the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th votes weigh differently? Is it basically 5 votes for 1st, 4 votes for 2nd, 3 votes for 3rd, 2 votes for 4th, 1 vote for 5th? And then tally all the votes up?

I like the idea about voluntary flagging of alt accounts. :)

As for the votes you cast - they aren't weighted based on experience points, but yes, a vote of "1st" is worth 5 points and a vote of "5th" is worth 1 point. The submissions are ranked based on total points. We store all the individual voting data and have experimented with various ways to run the numbers. This seems like the most fair way to tally the votes but suggestions are always welcome.

I'm really curious--I still have the level 10 boxing glove, and I'm part of the 2000, as seen below.

Just how many inactive users were there? How low did the 2000 go?

Starting on the 1st of each month, I'll watch every submission that wins the top 5 and then rate them on a 5 scale. Whichever has 5 and I like a lot gets voted.

Not really... i seen all thease and i still say increase the number of selected nominations...

~X~

So are there a significant number of others you would have voted for?

Spare a thought for those of us who haven't seen most of them and want to be totally fair!

A partially informed vote on this matter is much better than not casting your ballot at all. There are PLENTY of voters, and any ignorance you have of some great work will be more than made up for by the voters who have seen those flashes that you missed.

I suppose I agree that a partially informed vote is better than none at all, but I would strongly urge folk to watch as many as they can.

If folk rely on others to vote for those they may have missed, then we'd end up with a basically skewed 'popularity vote' rather than a genuinely well informed vote of quality as I think the panel was meant to generate.

I was going to suggest again that the voting time be lengthened to 7 days but I suppose if the voting possible winners are known beforehand, as they will be this month, folk will be able to watch them in their own time beforehand anyway.

Maybe that could be turned into a secret or something for easier reference than looking up the bot's various posts and the frontpage archive? Have a link to see 'the shortlist thus far' or something like that.

Personally, I'd like to see the shortlist be clearly available, but voting only start some days after it's completed, to lessen the sense of urgency and to send a clear note that now is the time to watch a few more movies if you'd like it to be fairer.

Also, maybe in future you could sort of allow other people to pick possible as well as yourself and the main NG team?

Maybe allow people to select a movie for consideration to entry, then others would be able to vote against/for this decision if part of the panel. Then based on their decisions, and maybe a final veto/approval from you, that entry could be entered.

As you mentioned earlier, it'd be nice to give recognition to those who fall outwith the top daily 5 and this may be a way of doing that and also pleasing the ultra hardcore like XwaynecoltX.

I'm right on the line, I guess, #2196, so there's at least 196 people in the top 2195 that haven't logged on this month...

And FYI, my #1 pick comes in at Sky Boarder III Ver2. Good job, Micol =)

If only more people had the time, I'm sure HUGE games like mine would get more plays and perhaps more votes. Oh well, back to the drawing board......as long as someone out there actually will play one of my games, and at least one person says it was one of the best experiences ever I will continue to make my games even in this Movie dominated enviornment....

I think that the list to pick the top 5 out of needs to be narrowed down a bit. Maybe to 20 or something. That list was just too big.

I don't think users who just vote on flash should be eligible for $100 cash, maybe a discount for a product like macromedia flash or something. Maybe get them to be a contributor...

Now, I just wonder when all the voting will be finished, and when the results will be out, above alle. I'm really looking forward to knowing.

After all, this is the big premiere of a new revolutionary NG feature, that will surely change the website a lot, and will bring much things to Newgrounds, some negative and some positive. Anyways, I think it's a brilliant idea, and I really can't wait to know the 5 talented mothafuckaz.

Well i do vote fair and i did rewatch the ones i didnt remember all that well i mean it does span a months of flash but im just saying we should have more then 150 to choose from, just my opinion though,

also i think the top 10 reviewers or maybe even active reviewers should be allowed to vote since thease reviewers see most of the movies on a day to day basis...

I've seen many of these now and I still am having a hard time deciding! I am also having trouble separating my personal favorites from others that I might not enjoy as much but think they did really well as stand-alone flash projects... this is gonna be hard. Thank goodness I have a few more days left.

I hope we'll get to see how many people out of these 2200 possible actually voted, in total I mean. and of course it'd be cool if we could see how many votes each individual flash got too.

Wow!
After 2 days and literally hundreds of megabytes of transfer, my 56k is going to have to check himself into the hospital! Thank God for the 5 megabyte limit!
I just finished with my voting (nominated artist not exp. obviously) and that was a very difficult choice.
I think the system is good as is, and any increase in the number of submissions would kill any other dial-up users out there, especially any who might have jobs or lives...

Im suere we will see results i mean they will tell us the winners heh its only comon sense and the stats behind them would be great, it would be good to see howmany of the 2000 voted which we may or may not see, but overall its all a ggood thing for newgrounds and its fans...

Just a suggestion for next month.

Some may not agree with this, but here goes:

1. Have less to choose from. People are lazy......most people....so chances are they REALLY WON'T TRULY view/play through 150 pieces. Either make it less pieces or make a longer time period to view the 150.

2. Categorize the games and the movies seperate. Lets just take a look at the number of games to movies in this competition, not to mention the top 50 slots, and not to mention the number of game submissions to movie submissions. Maybe an award for games and an award for movies seperate. This would give both sides more direct competition, and also level the playing field for those whom submit games (myself included)

3. Even MORE SELECTIVE group of voters. I know the goal is to include the newgrounds public, however the 2,000 tops may still be a little high of a number for judges. This one not so much as the other two suggestions but still kinda.

There you have it for now, my top 3 suggestions for this competion in the future. Although the way it is now is fine, and it will DEFINATELY bring a GRADE AAA calibur artist best work out of him/her. This is big time for newgrounds and its authors alike.

I never imagined you wouldn't. Just that I personally haven't watched most of them (maybe seen 20 or so) and hope to watch each at least 2x before voting.

Tom Fulp... why do you have to consume our lives so.... ;-6

My point in asking if there were others you would have chosen is that if there aren't any others you feel worthy of the top 5, then why should there be any more?

also i think the top 10 reviewers or maybe even active reviewers should be allowed to vote since thease reviewers see most of the movies on a day to day basis...

http://ngtlexp.idohost.com/rev-022705-1.html

People in the top 25 voters who may not be able to vote:

Hamy_jamy
DevastatoR_da_X
zackdaman03
Dxkpower (although he can this time, he theoretically couldn't if enough people went active again).

Hmmm... I'd probably agree that reviews should maybe come into it. But then there would be more incentive for folk to leave crappy reviews...

Tough call...
