I like the gradients on the hair and head.

I really hate figures which show the arm's join though.

Also, I'd round the bottom of the neck.

Overall a nice look though.

i know the themes underwater but do u mean like the story has to do with water or there has to just be water in it. becuase mines gone have a lot of water scenes etc but the "theme" really isnt about water.

From the sound of it, as long as water is /a/ theme - not just a small ingredient - it will be allowed. It doesn't have to have water as its main or only theme. But be largely based around water, rather than just have it appear in a random bit.

mynamewontfitin may have to confirm/refute that though.

The theme is water, not underwater

There's a difference.

Indeed.

Yah anyway, does anyone have any good techniques on water animation in flash, because i'm stuck.
This is just one frame of my flash, but I have more, its just not put together.
Now, What i need is someone to help me on my water technique becuase it looks too solid.

Hey, nice water... thing is, the loop isn't raelly complete, it chopps up when it loops... other than that, i would recommend have a lighter surface to your water and have it get darker as it goes deeper... maybe an alpha gradient?

I'll have to learn myself. But rather than just tweening that curved line to move, I'd have it either drawn fbf, or shape tweened to go into a horizontal line, then invert. Probably the former.

Just a thought.

As long as you get your thing in before the deadline. Like most, it's open entry.

Yeah, looks pretty cool (and here I was going to mention the lack of water =)

Keep it up, I have a feeling it'll make it into the final! Although I hear everyone else is working pretty gosh darn hard at this!! I guess I really better get a move on... But it's just so easy to procrastinate! April is so far off still!
(And even though it's unrelated, forgive me for saying I got a comic in the March 3rd IGNCube Mailbag! I'm just so excited!) =)

Ooo im soo confused. MYNAMEWONTFITIN pleaaase can you verify this for me.
My whole animation is about a guy sitting on a rock in a pond, will that count as a theme for water. Although he never interacts with the water its still there throughout most of the movie lol.

thanks,
Amin

Uhh... I like the guy, but it almost seems like you're cheating. You are technically allowed to use gradients, but that's sort of BS. you used them a hell of a lot in that guy, and that defeats the whole purpose of "5 Shades of Blue." I mean, if myname had wanted that much gradient-ness, he would've called it just "Blue" or something... that's like 1000 shades of blue...

How come everyone's putting bars on their animations with the colors? Like I did that for easy eyedropper tool but didn't put it on the stage, that's what myname meant. It's really distracing to have a fifth of the screen filled up with those colors, especially when they're animated. Not a single person (if I can remember) did that in 5 SOG or 5 SOB, so why do it now? Let's follow the tradition, and not put in the colors. Myname'll have them in the intro screen. There's no need. Plus it gets redundant when everyone has them. Let's cut them out.

Yo, for your water, it looks solid because it is a solid color. In order to give it a more liquid feel i would make it about 75% solid (set the alpha to 75%), then go to modify / shape / soften fill edges, have it expanded to about 20 and about 10-15 steps. Once you do this, duplicate the movie clip and move it slightly lower and left of the original. Add as many duplicates as you would like to get the feel you want.

Blah Blah Blah..
