The Rock the Bells tour hit the Bay Area on August 18th. I have to say that was the greatest concert I've ever been to.
Immortal Technique opened the festival with a number of his best tunes, gave some kind words, and then directed everyone towards a booth where he was signing autographs. I got the Tech to sign my program and ticket.
The concert rolled on with my very favorites - Talib Kweli tore up the stage, then Mos Def, then the two came on together for some Black Star hits. I was in heaven!
One drawback to the performances as the day went on was that there were two stages and one would occasionally have to choose between two artists. I ended up seeing The Roots over Nas, and Hieroglyphics over Cypress Hill. At one point I went nuts because Blackalicious and Public Enemy were playing at the same time. I ran from stage to stage to jam to the beats of Gift of Gab and Flavor Flav.
Finally, it was time for the headliners. A good friend and I managed to claim front row (a little further right of the stage) and we got to see the glory that is the Wu-Tang Clan. They ripped San Francisco a new one; I've never seen so much energy on stage! Needless to say, the whole experience was amazing and I'm definately going to be there next year!
