the first idea seems good even though it doesnt apply to me on acount of ive only been a member since cristmas eve 2004 but i take pride in being at least level 9

Sounds like good changes! I also agree with leaving the width the same. There's some benefits, but leaving side space ultimately makes it a lot cleaner, tidier.

Meh, who cares. It's still contributing to the web site, even if they only deposite experience every once in a while. One vote on a friends crappy video will not get you entered, a deposite for votes on 5 crappy videos will. 5 votes for crappy flash will help to blam crappy flash. Either that or 5 votes will protect worthy flash. It's an incentive to help keep what we want and toss what we don't.

Seriously though, I was gobsmacked back when I saw the announcement. This is probably the biggest thing to happen on NG whilst I've been here. I honestly think that however you handle it, people will respond in kind. Do it as a commercial company might, and sure, people may get greedy.

But with your intentions and attitude, I too am positive about the whole experiment. I'm confident it will encourage some to try harder.

Regarding companies, I basically feel something about this should be written in terms and agreements, maybe to be digitally signed when accepting the prize, or (once/if the prize becomes regular) in the submission bit.

Just so if something happens, you are always able to cause them some harm. Hehehe

One thing I'd say is that unless permission has specifically been granted to the flash author, copyrighted content probably shouldn't be allowed, to cover yourself. I almost feel like an idiot for stating that though. It's just that your comment in the other thread about copyrighted music not being grounds for disqualification confused me.

I presume you meant it would only be allowed if permission had been given?

I am also working with Stamper to prepare another surprise for the monthly winners, but I won't announce that unless we actually pull it off. :)

Basically, each day that you deposit points to your Grounds Gold account (you do so by voting on five submissions while logged in), you are entered into a drawing to win. So you can enter 30 times in a 30 day month, for example.

That's why I repeated it. I think it's funny. I'm not suggesting they should give us more, getting a free account is an honor all by itself.

Tom, or liljim - If you really want to expand to 1024 you can easily keep BOTH the 800x600 and the 1024x768 versions of the site. You can combine javascript and php for the site to choose the appropriate version automatically - Obtain the user's resolution with JS and redirect to the page with the appropriate format. Optionally, the value could be saved in the session, so this check doesn't have to be constantly made, and in the user's grounds gold account (if there is one). And you can let users change it in their menu, since some people with higher resolutions prefer the 800x600 format anyway.
