I think a better plan of action would be to use style sheets to layout and design the site, but I've been saying that to you guys for years. This time, though, I'm going to add that you can let the users choose the width of the site that's best for them by having multiple CSS files and having an option for "theme" or "site width" in the grounds gold menu. You can have various styles, like "750px wide", "975px wide", or "relative %-based width".
FWIW, my screen res at work is 1600*1200 on a 19" monitor. I think it's higher than that at home since I have a 21" monitor.
