It's a good innitiative, but may I take this oppertunity to complaint about the lack of attention you give to the Audio Portal . We musicians keep getting ignored :(
I know this mainly is a flash site, but me, for instance, visit the Audio Portal alot more often then I visit the Flash Portal. Wouldn't it be nice to promote and motivate the musicwriters here on Newgrounds? I know, people listening and/or downloading your music is the biggest reward (hehe, it's true though), but I think it would be great if there was just a little more attention for the Audio Portal. It doesn't even need to be sponsored with money or anything, just brush it up a bit. (Making the voting system different, reviews in profile, making musicians able to change the comments on their songs, etc.)
I'm sorry if I sound like a whiney bitch, but maybe if I keep repeating it, somebody eventually WILL listen :)

I think the entire contest is pointless.
The prize will just go to the Top Five movies in the portal or just the best movies that month.
The real animators on NG, (the little people), won't get jack.

I don't think it really matters for you. :)
Anyway I have been working with flash (my uncle gave me some lessons [plus some with swish]) but they're only simple animations to help his staff meetings.
Even if I DO submit anything, I'll have to lie about my age.
I can see you'd be so stealthy about it. Announcing that on the forums and whatnot. How could anyone possibly figure it out now?

He probably could but if you live outside the US I don't think you'll recieve as much because I think there's a fine for transfering currencies.

I think the over 18 bit is for legal purposes since whenever there's a contest it usually says you must be 18 or older to win.

Depending on where you live. If you were in the UK I'm sure you'd recieve a lot less. But probably not if you were in somewhere where the US Dollar is higher (i.e. Canada)

Well, since song copyright seems to be an issue with the flash contest, I'm sure a lot of the artists will look to the audio portal for something that they could use legally, thus benefitting you both.

Does this mean if someone used a song in the audio portal in their winning falsh that they'd have to give some of the winnings to the musician that made the song?

If people have the educational version, can they not enter the contest? I know that you're not suppose to make profit with it, but I'm not sure if If that implies "selling" your work or just earning money in general.

I am giving thought to the Audio Portal at the moment. One option would be, if a winning monthly submission contains music from the Audio Portal, those authors would also receive a cash prize. I think if the prizes are a success and the site continues to grow financially, I will continue to raise the monthly "purse" for prize money.

im worried that if this site starts hitting hard times again and you start reducing the prizes or getting rid of them completely. people would be getting mad and upset and leave the site, this depending on how long these prizes last for.
Every once in very great while comes a ridiculously funny thread. So funny in fact i must put it into my sig http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic /1049194/1

i dont think it should be,im sure they work hard on there music but its nothing compared to what the flash artists do.
id say $50-$75 is a generous amount.
