YOU Stop making these! The ones you make are fucking pointless!
Password? Thats just a variable check dammit! Make a useful AS topic, as I said before something general not fucking password check.
The way I see it is this: I'm happy for anybody to share what they know, whatever level they're at with scripting. 'How do I password?' is quite a common newb question, so that thread definitely has its place, even if it is just a simple variable check. If yourself or anybody else wants to elaborate on it (like, maybe suggest a way to use a remote file to check the password, or one in which the password is 'buried deeper' in the swf), then post your thoughts/code in the password thread. That's the reason I started off making them as individual threads.
When I began making AS threads back in February, my aim was to have a resource in the Flash forum which would answer as many newb/intermediate AS questions as possible - which is why the first three were Preloader, Basic Movement, and Sound. Since then, it's taken off to cover more advanced aspects of AS, such as OOP and API, so the shape of the 'project' has changed; but the principle is the same - resources for actionscripters.
However, no matter how many AS threads there are, there will always be a limit to their usefulness, since many questions are asked about custom-made codes. All these topics can do is hope to eliminate some of the more repetitive questions.
I understand what you're saying about 'general' is better than 'specific', but I think they both have their place - many of the questions asked in this forum are very specific. Yes, I can see the list becoming too large to feasibly browse; at that stage, I'll either create an abridged version, or break it up into sections (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced).
