It's possible, but you also have a ton of negative examples. Additionally the internet is getting more and more personal so the anonymity is fading. With the rise of myspace and livejournal the internet is becoming very different from it's original or even second incarnation.

I don't hate gay people, I just hate the way they act sometimes.

The only gay guy I know at school was about 14-15 when he found out, and the first thing you know he dresses up gay and hangs out with all the girls.. and also is the only one to own a cell phone in the whole school.
