Why does it seem that everytime something in the world need to be fixed or changed that America allways decides the plan of action for the world? Why can't the world decide? Even in the UN, America calls all the shots.

I will explain with a song lyric
BECAUSE WE GOT THE BOMBS, OK, RUSSIA, GERMANY, ROMANIA, THEY CAN HAVE ALL THE DEMOCRACY THEY WANT THEY CAN HAVE A BIG DEMOCRACY CAKE AND WALK RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF TIENNAMEN SQUARE AND IT WONT MAKE A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WE GOT THE BOMB-Denis Leary

There is far more than one answer to this question, but I will go ahead and touch on the one that is probably most obvious.
It is a given that America is the most powerful nation in the world. Thereby, we have the ability to do the most damage economically, politically, as well as militaristically. Plus, we are generally rather stubborn, and when we do not get our way we are willing to do the types of damages cited. Other nations realizing this, and fearing these repercussions, feign support or decide not to get in our way.

There are three reasons. First of all, America is the last superpower. Secondly, America is superior in military and economic might, political influence, ingenuity, world negotiations, and motivation. Third, America is a melting pot of all the people of the world and is currently the best unified representation of the human race, so it has a lot of friends.

Well, to be fair, at least 5 countries have enough nukes to decimate at least one country each. Russia actually has the most, with 24,000, but we pull in a close second with 12,000.
Funny that those 5 countries are the countries with Veto power in the UN.

I hate to burst your bubble but the US has the most nukes, russia second. Russia was never able to match the same pointless out put as the US. Everything has to be desided by the US becuase it is the only super power (currently). But as history shows all super powers fall, regardless of how strong they where militarily, politicaly or economicly. It's just the way things are. China looks to be the next big kid on the block after the US and after China the EU should be well established after that.

we call the shots because we are expected too. we are viewed as the most powerful country in the world and people expect us to jump in and solve problems. take the recent tsunami, we sent aid and money but because it wasnt up to others expectations they said we were being stingy. so its just because the world expects us to intervene.

With the amount of squabbling going on within it?!? We're more likely to see Michael Howard win the next General Election, then declare war on the EU A swift and brutal defeat will follow - who'se dumb enough to mess with Russia within range?!?

He's right Jim... America does have the most nukes, but not near as many as you or the n00b may believe.
The United States as of 2002 had 10,240 nukes, followed closely by Russia with 8,400, then China with 390. Clicky.

Strange. I thought that nukes made a BIG explosion, no matter who had them.
Strange, I thought that 10, 000 dead people is not really much different from a 100, 000 dead people.
Strange, I thought that Napolean was dead! Someone bring back the Russian monarchy, the French are going to war with the rest of Europe!

Because America is the World power at this moment. Thats why. If you notice something in history, there is always a dominate empire, and that empire has always ultimately fallen. America will fall from power soon, and another country will make "world decisions", thats just how it is.

I think you need to do some research. America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, China, Fance, and Russia, all have veto power on the security council.
If one of them says something isn't happeneing, then it's not going to be ratified by the security council.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4013413.stm
You might notice that America ratified a resolution drafted by France to place an embargo on arms sales in the Ivory coast.
Not exactly the action of a completely self interested nation who has to be centre-stage all the time.

Your link doesn't count those in stockpile. Mine does.

If your going to not count those in stockpile, you might as well not count those that are going to be destroyed, which brings hte US down to 4,000 nukes.
Of course, I wouldn't trust the China figure anyone has, for obvious reasons.

I've seen this claim a lot and I have to ask what proof do you have of this? The world is much different today then it was at any other time in history with a global economy. A more likely scenario would be a single world government. But I suppose my argument doesn't hold much weight against "well Rome and Greece fell eventually."

While that's how many we claim to have, I'm not so sure I really trust it. Especially when there's a nuke base less than mile from my house in rural Minnesota.

It's simple deductive reasoning. If you agree with the two premises, you are contradicting yourself if you disagree with the outcome.
All empires / leading world powers have eventually lost their top spot.
America is now an empire / leading world power.
Therefor America will eventually lose their top spot in the world.
What do you disagree about? America's place in the world or the fact that all empires in history have eventually fallen from grace?

It's not just Roman and Greece, I mean look at history, every single empire/country that was once in control has lost power. And the whole deal about "the world is much different now" doesn't hold weight, a short time ago Russia was the "world power". Also, less then 10% of our economy is bassed on products made in the U.S., while 80% of china's income comes from us buying there shit. Look at some charts, our economy has been going down while foreign countries are sky rocketing.

I don't think anyone could disagree that America will eventually fall from its status. Every empire in history has fallen eventually no matter how powerful it was. Rome, China, Mongolia, Egypt, France, England, Inca, Aztec, Japan, all have rose and fallen. If it's been the same for millenia why would the rule suddenly stop applying?

Nobody can get rid of 10k nukes a year. Espescially not Russia.
Furthermore, why would everyone else be getting rid of thier nukes too?

Actually when it comes to the UN General Assembly the US has the same amount of say as the rest of the worlds countries, no mroe no less. Since there are more developiing nations, the west has the least amount of power. In the Security Council they hold the veto along with several other nations, so often they work outside the frame of the UN.

The General Assembly does very little, however. Being that if you want to get something done you have to use force, and that is given out by the security council.
Any way you put it, the UN is flawed, countries with less populations have the same voting power as those who have in some cases 300x the population.

How pry tell is America going to lose so much political capital and standing in the world in just 20 years? Like the saying goes Rome wasnt build in a day, it also didnt fall in one.

Really. I hear this SO DAMN MUCH it infuraites me. Why does China jump to the top? Cause they have lots of people? Big fucking deal. Well, I would call EU before China. Hell, maybe even Brazil if South America can get their shit together.
Heres an interesting theory Goebbels had. The big lie theory. The bigger the lie, the louder it is shouted, the more it is told, the more it is believed. I personally think he was 100% correct about this, I mean, just look at the shit people believe today. Ridiculous.
