It appears that Air Force One was shot down
Somewhere over the Middle East this morning
By a sleeper cell of rogue terrorists, firing a Stinger Missle.
The Pilot and all passengers are unacounted for.
The President's whereabouts are presently unknown
and he is pressumed missing.
The Vice President, Secretary of State,
and principles of the military are assembling.
Our nation stands at DEFCON 3.

These are the opening lyrics contained in the song "Blackmail the Universe" on Megadeth's new album "The System Has Failed." It's really eerie to listen to, because it's done like hearing a radio newscast... as though it actually happened.

So it got me to thinking; how would our nation react as a whole to an event like this?

I would like serious responses to this, not just random people saying "I'd dance in the streets" or "Megadeth sucks," got it?

Personally, I wouldn't care that much considering who is missing but I would be scared for our nation as a whole.

Air Force One is whatever USAF plane the President comandeers. A regular old C-130 can be AF1.

The Boeings that were built for the purpose of shuttling the President around do have some ECMs and other counter measures, but most of the security details are classified, so no one can really attest to the vulnerability of those two specific aircraft. It is not outlandish to consider that they may be shot down.

If it did get shot down, I would be extremely anxious about the immediate effects. Cheney in office...*shudder*

But it doesn't need to be, it almost always travels with an escort.

Ok there Harrison Ford. I dont think the USAF would refer to it as a souped up plane, just one with added features, like built in big confrence rooms.

The response would be a VERY angry America (if the president died). I mean so angry that we would absolutely OBLITERATE every single member of the terrorist organizationt hat did that. If the president died we would never stop hunting these guys, and I doubt they would ever get a trial. If it was a country that did it, not just a terrorist organization, we would pulverize that country until everything was obliterated. We'd tell the people to run like hell and drop so many bombs on their country that only dust was left.

I think it would eb important to make sure you know who did it, and harm as few innocent civilians as possible, unlike the current campaign.
