Why should they emphasize ONE THEORY in text books. There are many inconsitancies in this bogus Evolution theory.
The bigbang is completely false. It staates that a large supernova occured making such incredible energy that it took the origional Hydrogen atoms and forms a new heavier atom, until it made all the elements. Well where did this big star that exploded come from?
Evolution or any other unproven theories should be removed from public teaching.
You go to Catholic school(jus wonderin)?
Anyway i do and they explain the theory but they say it is ok to belive in evolution as long as you belive God had a part in it.

I don't know, people who are so gung ho about completely banning religion from everything in the classroom (oh noes teh pledge says god!) are nuts. And how does evolution pertain to religion man? If anything, it's the complete opposite.
Evolution is considered a religion for it is a beleif on our creation.
No, sorry man, the two things don't interchange. While you can say that God creating us is a religious view, and be correct, you can't say that any theory as pertaining to creation is a religious view.
I beleive the government is corrupt. This should not be taking place. Either no religion, (including evolution), or religion. Take your pick.
IMHO, I pick no religion... but I don't care if I have to hear 'God' or 'Jesus' in school. It's not hurting me.

Sure there are, but in all honesty, I'd in it, 'cause it's the best we got. And, for the most part, it's been proven. I mean, Neanderthals didn't just go *poof,* did they? I belive that we are over-evolved monkeys, and I frankly don't have a problem with it.

No, i don't have that priveledge of being beaten by Nuns or made to be in uniform. And God did not just have a "part" in the creation, he created all. You cannot take peieces of things and blend them with others otherwise it becomes false.

It's not the best we have, God, is the truth. It makes a lot better sense and is a lot less brain racking than science. Science is just a wee little peice of something people try to figure out. Look at how vast the universe is, no human could understand how an unlimited space and galaxy of mind-warming collossoty was formed.

Global Warming is true, it is not a theory. If you see polar ice caps melting sooner than they did 50 years ago. That's pretty much fact in front of you. But science construed into some scientific equation of how we were created.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

No, I'm sorry, I refuse to submit myself to God. I don't want to just believe in him, that he does everything, that we are meager and he is great, and if we do what he tells us, we'll get into his private little club in the sky. Why would he give us the ability to think and form discions on our own if that's the case. He would know we'd face moral dilemma's that would not allow us to get into Heaven, does he get a kick out of watching us toil? Does he enjoy watching us trial? I won't just say "God created the universe, end of story, there's no need for me to figure out more." I will test the limits of the brain that I have, and use science, the greatest tool mankind has ever created to figure out how and why things work. You don't have to, you can go on believing in God, I won't stop you.

The Bible was written nearly 2000 years ago buy people who though the Earth was flat. Absolutely fascinating book, but I don't believe a lot of it happened.
Global Warming is true, it is not a theory. If you see polar ice caps melting sooner than they did 50 years ago. That's pretty much fact in front of you. Titus, how did we discover global warming? Did god stick his head out of the clouds and say "Hey guys, stop fucking with my planet, you're burning it up?" No. We, the pitiful little overevolved apes that we are, all alone in the universe, discovered it throught science, which you just bashed.
I'm going to say what I usually say when I talk about religion. As much as I'd like to believe in God, his way is not the way of reason, it's the way of faith. I don't have faith. I'm chock full of reason, for using science to decompile and understand our universe and why things work. I choose not to surrender my will and myself to someone who I will not see until I die, and revoke all my faith in Science and the beauty of mankind in itself. It might not be your way, but it's mine, and I wouldn't change it for the world.
Ok...i don't get beat by nuns, and yes i do wear uniforms but thats besides the point anyway what i meant to say is that if evolution did happen. Then God made the evolution happend, he created evolution. He designed us so that we would evolve. Not just as part as i said im sorry first post didn't come out right.
At 1/11/05 11:34 PM, TitusRevised wrote: How can the government clearly and forcefully discourage promoting or even mentioning religion in public classrooms, yet they have in the text books, a THEORY of evolution.
The word "Theory" in scientific terminology is almost equivalent to a fact. When a scientist refers to something as a theory he is saying that it is the most substantiated explanation for a phenomenon not implying that it is a guess or a hypothesis.
Evolution is considered a religion for it is a beleif on our creation.
Religions by definition appeal to supernatural explanations, that's what differentiates religion from science.
I beleive the government is corrupt. This should not be taking place. Either no religion, (including evolution), or religion. Take your pick.
Why should they emphasize ONE THEORY in text books. There are many inconsitancies in this bogus Evolution theory.
If you would like to discuss the shortcomings of Evolution, please list them, most are just failures of an incomplete explanation of Evolution, usually the theory of Evolution is simplified and then the simple version is attacked.
The bigbang is completely false. It staates that a large supernova occured making such incredible energy that it took the origional Hydrogen atoms and forms a new heavier atom, until it made all the elements. Well where did this big star that exploded come from?
That is not the theory of the Big Bang. Furthermore, the first moments of existence are extremely difficult to explain unless you specialize in the subject. Most scientists don't really worry about it. Besides, if it turns out that the Big Bang isn't a correct explanation for the creation of the universe, it doesn't mean that God is the explanation OR that evolution is incorrect.
Evolution or any other unproven theories should be removed from public teaching.
First, Proof in it's strictest form is only applicable to Mathematics and Philosophy. Evolution has a significant amount of data supporting it.
Evolution is not a religion.
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
Nope, not at all.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
No.... maybe if evolution was a big place where people sat around and prayed...
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
Nope.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
If Darwin set out practices and values and was a spiritual leader, but no.
4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
This one doesn't refer to religion as an institution. But if evolution was the sole belief in your life that you were obsessed about it would fit.
You fail.
I don't know...
Maybe because science classes are suppose to teach scientific theories...
It's up to you if you want to believe in it or not. But let schools do their jobs...

No, it doesn't. Don't talk about things you don't understand.
Evolution or any other unproven theories should be removed from public teaching.
Unfortunately for you, evolution has enough evidence that the majority of the scientific community holds it as truth, which is what we should be teaching children.

Schools are funded by the government they aren't allowed to affect the establishment of creationism at all. They can't touch it. The exercising portion only applies to non-governmentally funded, private and public organizations, and citizens of the United States. However, as evolution falls under the heading of science, the teachers are free to teach it as the theory that it is as most teachers do. If the teacher isn't teaching it as such then one of two things is occuring. It's too complex of an issue for the course and they're relying on the students to research on their own if they're interested or they're bad teachers.

Because it is a theory. It is a scientific theory. There is much evidence supporting this theory. Thats probally the reason it is taught. Now if you want to prove otherwise feel free.
Evolution is considered a religion for it is a beleif on our creation.
Can you explain more in detail why you think that Evolution is concidered a religion. A belief on our creation does not equal religion. Try again, or expand this view much more into detail to show your evidence.
I beleive the government is corrupt.
Hey we agree on something. I don't believe it is as corrupt as some think it is, but there is corruption in our government, but then again show me a country without corruption <I'm willing to be the Vatican has its share of corruption>.
This should not be taking place. Either no religion, (including evolution), or religion. Take your pick.
Again, show where evolution is a religion. Again, evolution is taught because there is a lot of evidence supporting it, rather than creationalism which has very little if any real supporting evidence.
Why should they emphasize ONE THEORY in text books. There are many inconsitancies in this bogus Evolution theory.
Care to elaborate on these inconsistancies. Can you explain your "theory"? Also, if you do can you be mature enough not to get all upset when we show you huge gapeing holes in your theory.
The bigbang is completely false. It staates that a large supernova occured making such incredible energy that it took the origional Hydrogen atoms and forms a new heavier atom, until it made all the elements. Well where did this big star that exploded come from?
How about reading the Big Bang theory. Obviously you havn't read it, just probally repeating what your preacher preached to you.
Evolution or any other unproven theories should be removed from public teaching.
There is scientific law, and scientific theories. Theories are not 100% proven. Should we take Gravity, black holes, time itself, theory of relativity, and all of the other theories out of our text books?
<now on to some more of yours posts>
And God did not just have a "part" in the creation, he created all. You cannot take peieces of things and blend them with others otherwise it becomes false.
Can you explain further? Because that statement you made makes no sense.
It's not the best we have, God, is the truth. It makes a lot better sense and is a lot less brain racking than science. Science is just a wee little peice of something people try to figure out. You realize what you are doing right? The exact thing that probally started religion in the first place. You don't understand something, so instead of investigating it you make up an excuse for why it is there. Just as people used to pray to gods to make their crops grow because they didn't understand weather patterns, and meterology. Now we do, we understand there is no need to pray for rain.

First ammendment referes to religion. Until you prove otherwise evolution is not a religion, it is not a foundation for any religion. It can be used alongside with religion <as the Catholics do> but it also works very well independently of religion.

Well, why emphasize the Evolution theory, in a way religion is a thoery, it is unproven but can be explained. Why not teach religion as well? Schools should not force one theory of creation upon children. If they teach any theories related to creation, they should teach them all, not just one unproven thoery or educated guess. And i say again, it has numerous inconsistancies.

Um, I don't know what you've learned, but as far as I know, I am for sure stuck to the Earth by gravity, Im not beleiving an unproven theory that im stuck to the Earth, i experience it every moment. Ok, if we "evolved" from apes or monkeys....oh dear... why arent we continuing to evolve? Why arent we turning into blue elephant dinosours or some other exotic creature? How can science explain how we've just stopped at the human stage of "evolution".
And, if you beleive in God, you beleive his word, his word is the Bible, and in the Bible it reads we are higher than the animals and beasts of the Earth. So God would not make as as low as the animals, and deffinatly not an "animal" ourselves.

First off, evolution in not a religion, it‘s a scientific theory. Religion by nature is the acceptance without facts. Science is the search for facts with no absolute acceptance, that’s why they call it a theory.

It was a massive explosion yes, but it wasn’t a supernova. There was no ‘big sun’. there are several different theories to how it exactly happened, one of the most prominent being that the big bang was started by the implosion of the last universe. I could look up my Steven Hawking books but to be honest it’s too late and I won’t bother because you are obviously unreasonable and hypocritical. You claim the big bang is completely false while there is a shit load more evidence to support than there is of any magical being creating the universe.

They have the theory of evolution in books because it's SCIENCE, not religion. If you think it's religion because it's a belief, than people who study planets are religious.

Well, even if it isnt classified as a religion, it should NOT be teached for it is saying that this one THEORY is how we were created, and this controdicts all religions. So it is a religion substitute basically, and it is dealing with a religious beleif, creation.

Serrously though, how can you believe in the Bible and not believe in the Koran? They are both the ‘word’ of the same god. Except from what you were told growing up how do you truly know you are right? That is the beautiful thing about science. There is NEVER absolute facts, just accepted theories that work within our current knowledge of the universe, a true scientist should be as excited about proving his theories wrong as proving them right

I notice none of your comebacks referred to your original points, is that because you have nothing left to say? I’d be willing to continue that particular debate but I’ve had this one a dozen times, there is no way I’m going to convince you to burn your bible and no way your going to make me waste my Sunday mornings in church. So I guess I’m concluding.

Yes, but this is evolution is a scientific theory, meaning that this is conclusive to all scientists through out the world unless proven differently. This doesn't mean it's wrong or right, but the most scientific explaination that there is that technology so far is able to obtain.
You still haven't logically explained how evolution is a religious belief... you've made a whole lot of fallacies just to get to your answers and points, and that's not how stuff should be done. And even if there was a connection between scientific theory and religious theory, it would be so mininal because those things are so different, that it still wouldn't work out for your argument.
But Genesis isn't called theory, some call it truth. Since you believe this is truth and not theory, you have less of a reason to argue your point.

One last thing. How can you say you love science but deny that evolution and the big bang happened? Undoubtedly the most accepted and well known scientific theories?
Also, who’s to say that God/Allah/whoever didn’t use these as tools? What? Because it isn’t in the Bible? Genesis is but one chapter on a relatively small book. I doubt even god could fit it all in there.
Your claims are unreasonable and driven by you blind faith and blind hatred, two VERY dangerous things.

A theory is not a law. Let me explain...
A theory is something that explains a possibility of why something occurs. Notice the word why. It uses the scientific method to come about to these conclusions. Through data collection from fossils to DNA analysis of current species, the conclusion of evolution comes about. The idea of creationism, that god created the universe, is entirely religious based. It comes from the Bible! There is little evidence that you are providing that concludes that the current space in time that we are experiencing has come about through god besides quoting a book that was written by various amounts of men and passed down orally through a couple generations.
A law states how something occurs. It is definite and final. There is no debate because it simply says if this occurs then blah blah blah will come a result of it.
Theories are constantly changed through different data and from different perspectives. Laws only change if data is conflicting with the law.
One thing I want to point out. Well, probably more than one but whatever.
Gravity is a theory.
Cell theory is a... crap.
Electrons are theorized.
Neutrons are theorized.
Protons are theorized.
Etc., Etc.
But hell, I dont disagree. They should give more than one viewpoint. Evolution is kinda blinding and I think discourages free thought. Even though I think its true. Sorry, Im sounding stupid.
But it is kinda funny how some of the smartest people on the planet, the astrophysicsts, have given sorta back door nods to creation stories. Because the universe really is confusing as hell. Whatever...

Im not sure if anyone else adressed this but I know when I read this it made me want to bash my head.
Why? Because we have not reason to. We are perfectly adapted to the world we live in, and if we arent in some places, we manipulate them to make them perfect to us. And evolution takes a long time.
How can you like chemistry and physics but know nothing about biology? Kinda wierd. I think biology usually comes before chem and physics so I would think you would at least understand this.

Actually... who'se to say that we've stopped?
Evolution takes millions of years... If a mutation makes an organism better adapted for survival or make it better in perpetuating their species...
Who knows, perhaps there will be an extra-ordinary human that hasn't come yet. I mean, if you look at the time of evolution from a a little blot of microorganisms till now into a whole calender year, our humanity has been on earth less then a day.
