Hey everyone. I was wondering if it would be illegal for me to make a south park spoof with really realistic charecters. I have the pics below of all my charecters.

On a side note, would the pictures I've made be hard to animate?

Would these be hard to animate?

if u make money off of the project, yes, it's illegal. if it's an NG thing, then most likely not. it depends on ur animating skill to justify whether it will be hard to animate or not.

its not going to be illegal as long as you dont make money, like stated above, but just in case, give some credit to South Park in your credits at the end. And, it shouldnt be very hard to animate, because you just make each body part in a different layer and move them around. thats about as hard as it should get

characters =)

Anyways, nice drawings... did you trace with lines?

No it's not illegal until you say your the one who made up the characters or you make money off of it.

Hard to animate? Hell no, south parks animation is so basic.

Cool, I don't really plan to make money off of it.. but if that time comes around I was considering putting a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie saying it was in no way affiliated with SOuth Park, lol

There are a lot of southpark spoofs and copies on NG. And besides, those that make the actual southpark are not the kind of people that sue for the slightest bit of copyright infringement (they do it themselves in basically every episode!)

So dont worry and have fun animating :)

yea you basically need an object for the, head, legs, body & arms, the arms could just be a bunch of different drawings in different styles which u keep switching (like foamy) & the facial expressions are basically line tool jobs, no problem

Dude... you didn't draw those. I came across those characters before.
So either you draw like a god, or you ripped those.
Anyway animating them would be simple as hell, as these characters need no leg animation, the talking animation is just an animated triangle or anything like that, it should be no problem :)

South park spoofs dont reall require too much skill to animate as teh characters dont walk they wadle and the main movements are focused on the characters head most times or its a far shot with four or more characters in a background so hard to animate??? well no, unless you ant even make a stick man move right and instead just tween him cross the stage.
. . . . As for illegal you MUST give the original creator credit for his characters and make sure you dont take any money for anything associated with this film. (as for other films well if your good thats another story)

Well, I made these charecters on a southpark character creation site. I thought it would be alot easier on me, considering I'm a horrible artist, lol.. as for my skills we shall see when I make the actual cartoon, I'm green when it comes to flash, and I'm slowly learning.. I just was looking for something basic. Thanks everyone for the advice, it comes greatly appreciated

Every 14 year old that thinks they know the law should shut up. If you made money off this, which I doubt, it still isn't illegal. You can't copyright a style. They can't say circle heads with circle eyes is ours. So feel free as long as you don't use copyrighted names you will be fine. After you ever noticed how many cartoon's look so much alike? If what these 14 years are saying is true then how come Simpsons hasn't sued Family guy for having a similar family? By the way thats a rhetorical question.
