Anyone know how "mod" a megadrive 2004-12-16 03:14:18 Reply

(thats a sega genesis for americans) or chip it as its sometimes know as i've heard it is possible to modify the internal working to make the machine play imports on a pal system.So i'm asking for either a site with instuctions or a step by sterp guide off another ng member any help will be much appreciated

Is it a Megadrive 1 or 2? I've heard that they are wired up differently.

I used to have a tut. on it, but I've lost a lot of hard-drives since then.

IIRC, you would first have to actually buy a chip. Cheap then, but I doubt you would be able to find them today. Not too sure about this, but there needs to be hardware (chip) that 'converts' the NTSC signals to PAL and vica versa.

I payed a guy to do it for me and he mentioned that he soldered it onto the motherboard.

why do you want to chip it when we have emulators now ?
do you just prefer to use the original, cause god knows once in a while i fire up the old mega-drive and play through all my sonic games (and dynamite headdy, that game rocked)

a friend of mine was able to play Japanese games on his megadrive by just taking the 2 sides off the cart itself.
