Speaking of cosplay, my Sakura costume arrived ^.^ I'll try taking pictures at some point.

But more importantly, I made an mp3 file attempting to sound like each of the girls from Soul Calibur II.
http://rei-chan.net/SoulCaliburDemo.mp3

The game announcer voice was done by Miroku/Houshi-sama; everything else by me.
Please enjoy & review! ^.^

Not that it matters, but.. after so many blamming and fifening (?) over the past few months, I'm finally level 10. w00t!

On a more on-topic... topic, I am here to once again whore around the next VAC Chat Karaoke thingamabobber. Yay. It includes singing from Klepto, Edwyn, and Audio Transmitter. Wasn't able to record singing of my own. I keep on forgetting. Honest. :/

It's just as eargasmingly delicious as the last one, and even has some Family Guy tunes in it, giving you all the more reason to DL it. Like, now.

Enjoy!

If you suck, you shouldnt be a voice actor then, try to strive in something else. I mean I suck at voice acting, and thats why I try to be good at writing and drawing/animation.

I only suck because I lack acting and vocal training, hopefully once I get those I will be good, maybe even on a pro VA level which I want to achieve

Ahhhh, GrantM. Do you ever learn? If you want to be a pro VA, it's not like winning the lottery or waking up one day and saying, "Hey! I'm a pro voice actor!" You need practice, practice, and more practice!!! And in one of your earlier posts, didn't you say that there was someone that could train you that lives near you? WHY HAVE YOU NOT DONE IT YET???? It blows my mind (and I'm sure all the other users you've complained and whined to) why you wouldn't seize the opportunity if you want to be a pro VA so badly.

GrantM, as the most part of the VAC members has replied to you, Pro VA is nothing that you will become just because you feel like it.
"Every journey starts with a step"
have you heard that before? It's true to every word, so you can't just skip to the seventh mile when you begin. I've not been here for quite some time, tho i have read the last 10 pages (or what it is) and read that you have been told by many of NG great voiceactors to stop repeating that you can't wait until you become pro.
It doesnt matter how long you have been doing something, the past was important then, but this is now and now is what matters. So do not try and live in the future nor the past, work hard everyday until you have achived your goal and then, if you one day you have made a good job, we will congratulate you. if you lose a role we will comfort you if needed.
BUT if you want to be a part of VAC then I should suggest that you listen to the advices the more experienced VA's give you, and learn. otherwise if you get to the top, you will only have enemies, and you will stand there all alone.

And for a VAC related topic, me thinks me will drop out from Vac until I've trained my voice a bit more. We're going to work with voices with the Drama class this year ( been there 2 years, and haven't worked with it at all T_T ) and as a sidenote, I have a (new) sig =P

I feel like adding the extension to that saying by Terry Pratchett: "Most people forget that there are steps after that", which I believe is applicable somewhat to GrantM. Although like you say, maybe he's more mindful about those steps than the first one. Like trying to build a highrise from the top floor down. XD

You know you're visiting this thread for all the wrong reasons when all you want to see is GrantM pulling the next GrantMism out of his earhole. I mean, seriously. This is Schadenfreude at its finest.

I just find it weird that GrantM says he sucks, so much so that he rufuses to post another sample, so much so that he makes it a point to tell everyone he sucks before going into his "gonna be a pro VA" tangent. Look dude, if you suck so bad you don't want people to hear your voice in a sample, then why the hell do you even want a voice acting role, won't you be afraid for everyone on NG to hear you voice? Why voice act if you hate your voice, and if it's really that bad and you still hope to be a pro VA, then you are gonna have to DEDICATE YOUR FREAKIN' LIFE to learning how to voice act. You can't sit on your ass and wait for it to happen after taking the "first step". If it were that easy, Mel Blanc would be turning in his freakin' grave! Sign up for some stage acting, vocal, singing etc classes and WORK YOURSELF TO THE BONE! Once you do that, THEN you can come back here and tell us your gonna be a pro VA, when you've shown enough enthusiasum as to keep us from laughing everytime you say it. Please dude, for our sake and yours, put some effort into it! And that's not asking people to tell you about potential roles, it means you gotta deditcate yourself to it if you want to go pro. You obviously don't understand the incredible number of people who say they are going to be a pro, compared to the incredibly small number who actually do. Surprisingly, it's the people who actually TRY and WORK HARD who make it, not the ones who sit in a forum telling people how one day you will be a pro...somehow.

Ok, I better stop before I hurt myself. Sorry about that, RANT OVER!

I agree with my bro,Triple, Gito, Omah-the bossman and everyone else. Dude ,GrantM if you don't practice you'll never get anywhere! Look I had only a few voices I could do at first before I even found this place, but I would constantly work with accents, pitch tone, dialect, speed etc till I made new voices, even recently I've made more. If you don't work you won't get results. If you hate your voice you'll never be a VA- you gotta embrace what ya got and work with it, take acting classes, singing, whatever, Just work at it and you'll get better. ~~~Dingo out, by the Power of Pat Benetar, is out! *vanish*

Need a voice actor? Give me a call! I've got 8 years of experience and great vocal range.

indeed there is, it's just as important to take those other steps as it is to take the first step.
But to speak in GrantM s defence, I know a bit how he feels so I think we should try and encourage him to try harder, instead of scolding him.
Tho still, his past does not give you (GrantM) the Ok to tell the members not to encourage and praise eachother, since (what I can sense between them) there has grown somewhat a family-like bond between them, or atleast strong friendship even if small brawls occur, they're still friends.
So no matter how many movies you get into, no matter how many jobs you get, you never get the right to tell this friendly club with all its members to stop praising.
Sometime they will also praise you, but you can't rush perfection, right? just keep working hard and sometime you will suceed.

Then you know what? Get on yer ass, stop saying you suck, and take the time to practice VAing on your own since you can't train with anyone else yet. Prove everyone who's said "you don't sound right" wrong. And please for the love of God (if there is one), read everyone's advice to you. From the VAA to your Livejournal to here. Everything that has been said to you WILL help you, but you just keep ignoring and continue to say "I suck" and making other excuses. You're wasting everyone's time and your time as well. Saying "I suck" will NOT make you a better VA. Lots of time and practice will.

Now get to it! And say anything along the lines of "I suck" again, and I shall explode. >:(

Okay then, first thing I should do is create another sound reel of what I can do in the hopes I can get some opinions on how good I am right now

I'll get to that right away

Okay, I looked over all samples. Here's my critique for each sample:

Sample 1 - Yes, you do sound a bit feminine in this sample, but don't worry. It's not such a bad thing. Anime has quite a few feminine male sounding characters. Also, your need to work on your emotion. The way you said the dialogue was quite odd.

Sample 2 - This sample was quite confusing. I wasn't quite sure what you were saying after "sasperella". You also sound forced, almost constipated even. I'm guessing this is you trying to sound American. Like Jerma said pages back, you really need to learn to use your god given accent. If you want to learn how to speak as if you were American however, you need to take some sort of speech lessons.

Sample 3 - Again, you sound forced. You need to work on that. But you do sound evil, and I assume that's how you intended on sounding like. XD

Sample 4 - Ok.. this really does sound a bit too feminine, but unlike the first sample, it sounds really fake. And yet again, you sound forced.

Audition - That was actually not too bad. Better than your samples. To tell you the truth, you'd do okay as females who are rather tomboyish.

Now that I have critiqued each one, just as a start to get you going and for you to know what to work on, here's basically the two things that I think you need to improve on as of right now and for a long period of time:

1) Emotion!! This'll sound a tad weird to do, but I don't really know another way to help you with emotion, especially since you've said that you're not able to partake in some Acting lessons yet. Besides, this is kind of how I learned: Watch some movies. GOOD, live-action movies. Study how they speak and their wording. Google up the script of the movie you saw/are seeing, and sort of act out the dialogue, trying to hit the same expression as the actors/actresses did when saying it.

2) Speech!! If you really want to learn how to sound American without sounding forced, go out and find yourself someone who'll give you some speech lessons on how to sound American.

I recommend practicing on both things. For a long time. A really long time. This'll really help you. The more you get both things down, the better you'll become. DON'T THINK YOU'LL BECOME A PRO OVERNIGHT. You won't. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice.

Practicing = improvement = your stepping stone to achieving your goal of going Pro.

Good luck and remember: TAKE EVERYONE'S ADVICE. It will seriously help you.

About the whole emotion thing, I'm trying that, but the problem is that it would require me to speak softly and the mic I use would not be able to fully pick it up since I have to speak loud on it just to capture my voice.

In addition I use noise reduction to get rid of unessesary background noise and that makes it slightly worse

I will practice on emotion though

I'm working on an animation about a ninja named Suterusu. Let me know if you're interested by emailing me a sample saying "Mikoto...Mikoto...I will kill him...for you...for my honor...and the rest of our village!" My email adress is da1lilthug@hotmail.com

Oh and by the way, I wanted to join the VAC here's my profile

Specialties: Evil voices, evil laughs.

Any other information: I like to play bad guy roles. I'm no good at good guys. Maybe I am. But I don't like to. I don't like too much swearing. I am an animator myself and my movies don't need nor contain derogatory language. :D I also posted this in the VAC forums! =P

I met Kagome at the Anime Evolution during a Amateur Voice Acting panel and she seemed impressed with me so I decided to try out voice acting myself. I've made a few samplers, and I'd like to join this club. I can do all sorts of different voices and I'm a good actor too. I hope to have some fun here.
